About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Occupational Therapy, the faculty member performs teaching, service, and research duties in the occupational therapy field. This role involves assisting the university and department in implementing plans, maintaining professional standards, and supporting recruitment and admissions. The faculty member will provide academic advising, ensure students meet fieldwork requirements, and utilize active learning strategies to teach Master of Occupational Therapy learners. Service to the university and profession is expected, along with demonstrating knowledge of curriculum design with regard to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, mentoring students on scholarly projects, and demonstrating ongoing scholarly achievement and research expertise.

Requirements

Must hold a minimum of a master’s degree awarded by an institution accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body.
Must have at least two years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist
Must have demonstrated clinical expertise in specific area of instruction
Must hold an unencumbered occupational therapy license in Mississippi
Must hold a national board certification from NBCOT.
Must be, or be willing to become a member of the Mississippi Occupational Therapy Association (MSOTA).
Must be a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

Nice To Haves

Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD)
Have documented scholarship and research.
Have knowledge of curriculum and instructional design to meet the mission and vision of the program
Have two or more years of academic or clinical teaching experience.

Responsibilities

Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose
Assist the university and department in implementing long-range institutional and financial plans
Maintain standards of the profession, including rules and regulations of licensing and certification.
Assist with recruitment and admissions processes for the Department of Occupational Therapy
Provide academic advising for current and potential MOT students
Ensure each student has met health and academic requirements for attendance at each fieldwork education experience
Use active learning strategies to teach entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy learners in faculty member’s area of expertise and provide evaluation of student learning.
Engage in service to the university and the profession through committee appointments, providing continuing education offerings, clinical practice, consulting, etc.
Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum design with regard to principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in accordance with meeting accreditation standards.
Responsible for mentoring students on scholarly projects.
Demonstrate ongoing scholarly achievement and research expertise.
