About The Position

The Patient Care Technician Certificate Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the Patient Care Technician Certificate program and teaching classes within the BNAT program. This role requires adaptability, a positive attitude, respect for students, understanding of learning styles, integrity, and the promotion of diversity and open communications. The standard load is fifteen contact hours per semester, with potential assignments during days, evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. The position is subject to the terms of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Current Illinois Licensure as Registered Nurse.
  • Completion of state-approved Train-the-Trainer and Evaluator Workshop course with approval as Basic Nurse Assistant instructor in Illinois. Or completion of this course within one year of hire. Approval must remain current.
  • American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR instructor (or obtain within 6 months).
  • Experience teaching in a Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program
  • Certification in Phlebotomy and EKG (or obtain through NHA within 6 months)
  • Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing.

  • Three plus (3+) years’ experience teaching in a BNAT program
  • Experience in teaching and online and/or using course management programs.
  • Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality, and accreditation processes, and committee engagement.
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Patient Care Technician Certification Program.
  • Teach classes in the PCT program appropriate to the candidate’s qualifications, including theory, lab, and clinical.
  • Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
  • Participate in course development, assessment, revision, and planning activities.
  • Seek clinical opportunities for EKG and Phlebotomy students with a programmatic growth mindset.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter and stay informed of current trends in nursing and long-term care.
  • Teach classes in the Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program, including theory, lab, and clinical.
  • Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses, as well as CPR classes.
  • Participate in appropriate departmental meetings, committees, recruitment activities, and advisory boards.
  • Assist students with academic tutoring.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
  • Teach classes during non-traditional times (evenings and weekends) and at other clinical and campus sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
