About The Position

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks a part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach Elementary Italian and potentially Italian culture courses. The appointment is for Spring 2027, beginning January 10 and ending May 15, 2027. The instructor will teach 3 contact hours per week per section and coordinate with the Italian program on shared syllabi, materials, and assessment. Sections meet on South Campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The ideal candidate will enhance the student learning experience by employing a range of effective teaching methods and strategies, with an emphasis on communicative language teaching, alignment with ACTFL proficiency standards, and the creation of an engaging, student-centered learning environment. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Italian or a closely related field preferred; ABD and M.A. candidates will be considered.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Italian and English required.
  • Extensive experience teaching Italian language as well as culture in English at the college level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach three sections of Elementary Italian in Spring 2027, or two sections of Elementary Italian with the possibility of a third course on Italian culture taught in English.
  • Teach 3 contact hours per week per section.
  • Coordinate with the Italian program on shared syllabi, materials, and assessment.
  • Enhance the student learning experience by employing a range of effective teaching methods and strategies, with an emphasis on communicative language teaching, alignment with ACTFL proficiency standards, and the creation of an engaging, student-centered learning environment.
