About The Position

Faculty prepare and teach face-to-face and online courses in the Optical Systems Technology program, develop new educational materials, assist with the assessment of student learning, as appropriate, perform professional duties, and participate in departmental and institutional functions, including department meetings and committee work. Faculty report to the chairperson of the Optical Systems Technology program. The successful candidate will bring a passion for teaching and a desire to support and mentor MCC students as they pursue educational and career goals. This is a temporary, grant-funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Requirements

Earned bachelor's degree or higher in Optics (or related field) from a regionally accredited higher education institution OR associate's degree in Optics from a regionally accredited higher education institution, along with three (3) or more years of experience in an Optics-related field.

Nice To Haves

Earned master's degree or Ph.D. degree in Optics (or related field) from a regionally-accredited higher education institution.
Five (5) or more years' industrial/field experience.
Teaching experience in Optics or related discipline.
Familiarity with one or more of the following course topics: Conventional Optical Fabrication, CNC Optical Fabrication, Optical Systems, Geometrical Optics, Optical Instruments and Analysis, Wave Optics, Lasers, Photonics.
Experience with Interferometers and Metrology equipment.
Experience with Advanced Optical Fabrication Process.
Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
Awareness of the potential value of technology as a tool for teaching.
Experience and/or interest in developing and teaching online courses.
Experience with computerized student record management.
Available to teach late afternoon and evening courses.
Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages, proficiently.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledge.
Teaches courses and evaluates student performance in Optical Systems Technology as per guidelines set by the department and Monroe Community College.
Teaches multiple courses/sections each term, as outlined by the contract and as available.
Develops online Optical Systems Technology courses.
Prepares lesson plans and creates instructional materials and activities for student engagement.
Prepares Course Information Sheet/Syllabus/Outlines in accordance with department and College guidelines.
Establishes and maintains an engaging and supportive classroom environment.
Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other records according to department and College guidelines and submits them in a timely manner.
Assists department with student retention and completion initiates including early alert.
Develops innovative teaching pedagogies to facilitate learning.
Incorporates high-impact teaching practices into course design, as appropriate.
Actively engages in pedagogical and academic discipline professional development.
Demonstrates excellent time management skills, and the ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task.
Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the department chair, as appropriate.
