About The Position

Davidson-Davie Community College is seeking a Full-Time Faculty member for its Nurse Aide Certificate (NAS) Program. The role involves designing and implementing learning strategies, developing course materials, maintaining records, student recruitment and advisement, course evaluation, and participation in college activities. The position reports to the Nurse Aide Program Director and the Division Chair of Public Services. Instruction will be provided in traditional and online environments, as well as clinical settings. The Nurse Aide program is approved by the Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR). This is a nine-month contract position.

Requirements

  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the United States.
  • Completion of a course in teaching adults OR Experience in teaching adults OR Experience in supervising nurse aides.
  • Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in nursing with a functional emphasis in nursing education.
  • Prior college teaching experience, especially in a nurse aide or associate degree nursing program.
  • Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods.
  • Acute and long-term health care facility experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Nurse Aide Certificate (NAS) Program.
  • Developing course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintaining instructional records.
  • Student recruitment, advisement, and retention.
  • Developing and evaluating courses, programs, and services.
  • Participating in College activities and committees.
  • Instructing Nurse Aide students in the 'art of bedside nursing' through engaging classroom curriculum, skills lab, and clinical settings/scenarios.
  • Instructing Nurse Aide students in didactic, skills lab, and clinical settings and scenarios.
  • Teaching assigned courses at any and/or all of Davidson Davie’s service locations using the delivery method needed (on-line, hybrid, face-to-face, video conferencing, etc.).
  • Ensuring that teaching strategies include active student engagement, timely and consistent feedback, and accurate up-to-date record keeping (attendance, grades in Moodle, Starfish, midterm, and final grade reporting, etc.).
  • Ensuring that all training and skill activities adhere to the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation guidelines.
  • Assisting in the coordination of state testing for the students.
  • Assisting the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator with Nurse Aide Program site equipment maintenance, organization of documentation, and implementation of the Nurse Aide program.
  • Participating in a variety of student-related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements and progress reports.
  • Staying abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participating in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Assessing the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revising and improving lesson format; evaluating various textbooks and selecting books to be used for future classes.
  • Assisting in the recruitment of students.
  • Participating in college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
  • Demonstrating community involvement.
  • Performing other duties as assigned that achieve the mission and initiatives of the college.
