About The Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mercer University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position in fluid mechanics, gas dynamics and/or thermal sciences. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and develop a strong research program aligned with this field. The candidate should be an effective communicator with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship, aligned with the institution’s educational mission. Additionally, the successful candidate should have plans to involve undergraduate students in research. Mercer University is a private and comprehensive university and includes the Mercer Engineering Research Center in nearby Warner Robins, GA. Requirements

  • An earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start date.
  • ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the Ph.D. is obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Maintain a regular on-campus presence for face-to-face interactions.
  • Supervise capstone design projects and support student teams.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and seek external grant funding.
  • Employ sound pedagogical practices and appropriate instructional technology.
  • Advise students and provide individual assistance during weekly office hours.
  • Participate in course and laboratory revisions and curriculum development as assigned.
  • Attend department and college meetings and actively serve on college and university committees.
  • Participate in institutional events, including convocations, commencement exercises, and recruitment activities.
  • Develop a strong research program aligned with fluid mechanics, gas dynamics and/or thermal sciences.
  • Involve undergraduate students in research.
