About The Position

Montgomery College is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching Biology at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. They are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and may be reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and is determined at Management’s sole discretion. Part-time faculty are limited in the number of equivalent semester hours they can teach per semester and academic year, with different limits for the academic year and summer sessions. Requirements

  • Masters in Biological Sciences or a related major with relevant courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment.
  • Willingness to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
  • Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences.
  • Experience teaching introductory biology courses and laboratories at the college level.
  • For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
  • Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned lecture, discussion and/or laboratory courses in biology, which may include introductory biology, microbiology, anatomy & physiology, genetics, environmental biology, or general biology for non-majors.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include daytime, evening, weekend and/or accelerated sections. Opportunities may exist to teach summer session classes.
  • Follow guidelines from department course coordinators to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience across multiple sections of a course.
  • Administer, grade and provide feedback to students in a timely manner to monitor student mastery and progress through a course.
  • Meet established deadlines to submit student mid-term and final course grades.
