About The Position

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking applications for Faculty Associate positions for the 2026-2027 academic year. These are fixed-term, one-semester renewable appointments for teaching one or two courses (up to 0.40 FTE) per semester, either in-person or online. Faculty Associates are not eligible for benefits, sabbaticals, or tenure. Salary is determined by qualifications and teaching load. Official transcripts are required before employment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates cannot hold multiple non-benefits eligible appointments at ASU. The positions require teaching in-person courses on ASU campuses (Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale) or online. Faculty Associates must use a lead syllabus and/or course shell template with required materials and assignments for consistency across course sections. The SCCJ is a highly-ranked program known for its faculty and research, offering various undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, as well as certificates, both on-campus and online. Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the mission of the School and College through teaching.
  • For teaching undergraduate-level classes: An earned doctoral degree in a natural science (biology, chemistry, physics), computer science, criminology, criminal justice, or a closely-related field from a regionally accredited university, OR an earned master’s degree in forensic science, a natural science (biology, chemistry, physics), computer science, criminology, criminal justice, or a closely-related field AND at least five years of related experience (teaching and/or practitioner experience) demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
  • For teaching graduate-level classes: An earned doctoral degree in a natural science (biology, chemistry, physics), computer science, criminology, criminal justice, or a closely-related field from a regionally accredited university, OR an earned master’s degree in forensic science, a natural science (biology, chemistry, physics), computer science, criminology, criminal justice, or a closely-related field AND at least five years of related experience (teaching and/or practitioner experience) demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, consistent with ASU’s Charter.

Nice To Haves

  • An earned doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited university.
  • Experience working in a crime laboratory or in forensic investigations.
  • Two or more semesters of teaching undergraduate or graduate-level courses with strong evidence of teaching effectiveness (student evaluations, peer evaluations, prior course syllabi).
  • For those who have never taught, the potential for teaching effectiveness as demonstrated by a sample syllabus for one or more courses.
  • Experience with technology/course management systems.
  • Demonstrated excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and master’s level courses related to forensic toxicology/drugs of abuse.
  • Teach undergraduate and master’s level courses related to forensic pathology/death investigations.
  • Teach undergraduate and master’s level courses related to computer forensics.
  • Teach undergraduate and master’s level courses related to crime scene investigation and documentation (e.g., forensic photography).
