About The Position

The Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy harnesses the University’s broad disciplinary excellence in public policy, along with its innovative teaching, research, and engagement programs, to solve pressing global challenges. The school’s faculty applies an interdisciplinary and problem-oriented focus to wide-ranging public policy issues as they explore how government choices intersect with people’s lives. The Brooks School is home to approximately 50 staff members, more than 75 tenure stream and teaching faculty, and a distinguished group of part-time faculty who are leaders in public policy and healthcare, bringing real world expertise into the classroom. The school enrolls over 700 undergraduate, professional, and graduate students across its programs in Ithaca, at its Washington, DC facility, and online in partnership with eCornell. The Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy is seeking a Faculty and Academic Administrative Support professional to join our administrative team and play a vital role in advancing the school's academic, research, and public engagement mission. In this position, you will partner closely with faculty, academic staff, students, and colleagues across the university to provide exceptional administrative support that enables innovative teaching, impactful research, and meaningful community engagement. You will be a trusted resource, problem-solver, and collaborator who helps create efficient, sustainable processes that support the success of our academic community.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree; 2 years to 4 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Strong organizational skills and customer service orientation are essential.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting faculty teaching, research, and extension activities.
  • Coordinating a variety of administrative tasks, often under evolving priorities and deadlines.
  • Assisting with complex domestic and international travel arrangements and reimbursement processes.
  • Serving as a knowledgeable resource on university travel and purchasing policies.
  • Facilitating purchases and payments through university systems and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Supporting the creation and management of instructional and research-related materials, including Canvas support.
  • Coordinating hourly student hiring processes, from job posting through onboarding.
  • Assisting with mailings, copying projects, communications, and other administrative needs that help faculty and research teams succeed.
  • Provide flexible administrative support across multiple offices and teams.
  • Assist with travel, purchasing, and student employment transactions during periods of high volume.
  • Support school events, meetings, and special projects.
  • Partner with centers, institutes, and faculty directors to meet operational needs.
  • Provide backup support for specialized administrative processes, including visa-related activities.
  • Supporting faculty and academic staff searches across multiple disciplines.
  • Coordinating candidate visits, travel, and interview itineraries.
  • Maintaining confidential search documentation and records.
  • Assisting with promotion, reappointment, tenure, and advancement processes.
  • Supporting faculty committees, meetings, agendas, minutes, and annual review activities.
  • Participate in departmental and university projects.
  • Complete required compliance training.
  • Contribute to special assignments and other duties that support the Brooks School's mission.
