About The Position

The Family and Consumer Sciences Student Worker must be willing to complete tasks as needed for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences faculty and staff in a timely manner. Must be enrolled as a FACS major. This role involves working independently, exercising good judgment, discretion, and communicating and willingness to work with others in a respectful manner. The student worker will be the first point of contact for the FACS Department, handling phone calls, welcoming visitors, and maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor. Familiarity with the six programs offered by the FACS Department is necessary as the role may involve leading tours during open house events. The student worker is responsible for ensuring the general area, mail room, and kitchen are in order, and supporting University initiatives and FACS sponsored events. Adherence to the FACS Student Worker’s Handbook, maintaining good academic standing, managing work-life balance, and keeping confidential information private are key aspects of this position. The role strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner and working effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a FACS major.
  • Ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer skills
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform any tasks assigned by the professor or supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Work with any visitors in a welcoming and courteous manner, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Handling phone calls in a courteous manner and be able to take messages when necessary.
  • Be familiar with the six programs offered by the FACS Department as one may be involved leading tours during CFAW open house and Experience LU.
  • Make sure the general area, mail room and kitchen are in order.
  • Welcome students, family or visitors to the Family and Consumer Sciences and support University initiatives including CFAW and Experience LU and FACS sponsored events.
  • Adhere to the FACS Student Worker’s Handbook.
  • Maintain good academic standing and manage work life balance.
  • Ability to keep confidential information private.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
  • Running errands to other departments on campus.
