About The Position

The Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Student Worker will work independently, exercising good judgment and discretion, and communicate respectfully with others. This role involves completing tasks as needed for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences faculty and staff in a timely manner. The student must be enrolled as a FACS major. Essential functions include working well with faculty, staff, and students, performing assigned tasks promptly, and welcoming visitors in a courteous manner, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor as the first point of contact for the FACS Department. Responsibilities also include handling phone calls courteously, taking messages, being familiar with the six programs offered by the FACS Department for potential tours, and ensuring the general area, mail room, and kitchen are kept in order. The student will welcome students, family, or visitors to the FACS Department, support University initiatives, adhere to the FACS Student Worker’s Handbook, maintain good academic standing, manage work-life balance, and keep confidential information private. The role requires strict adherence to Liberty University policies and representing the University in an exemplary manner, working effectively as a team member and embracing LU’s mission.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a FACS major.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer skills.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Ability to keep confidential information private.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
  • Maintain good academic standing.

  • Students may be scheduled up to 18 hours per week but are not guaranteed 18 hours per week.

  • Lead tours during CFAW open house and Experience LU.
  • Make sure the general area, mail room and kitchen are in order.
  • Welcome students, family or visitors to the Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Support University initiatives including CFAW and Experience LU and FACS sponsored events.
  • Adhere to the FACS Student Worker’s Handbook.
  • Maintain good academic standing.
  • Manage work life balance.
  • Keep confidential information private.
