About The Position

Columbia Heights Public Schools is seeking a FACS - Family/Consumer Science Teacher to work at our High School. This is a 1.0 FTE (benefit eligible) position that begins Fall 2026. The role involves teaching Family/Consumer Sciences to high school students, developing lesson plans, and creating an effective learning environment. The teacher will also be responsible for assessing student needs, maintaining records, and collaborating with parents and counselors.

Requirements

  • Requires valid MN teaching license in Family/Consumer Science, Home Economics or Consumer and Homemaking/Family Life at the appropriate grade level.
  • Bachelor's degree in teaching, or related field teaching and working with children, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidate will have a CTE licensure.
  • Experience working in a multi cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.
  • Alternatives to the qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Family/Consumer Sciences to Columbia Heights High School students.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Develops Individualized Educational Programs and Evaluation Reports (IEP's) for special needs and regular students.
  • Translates lesson plans into effective learning experiences.
  • Integrates subject area content and technology.
  • Adapts teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Instructs students in specialization and subject matter areas specified in state law and administrative regulations and District procedures.
  • Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
  • Assesses and evaluates students needs; provides instruction in individual or group sessions.
  • Acts as a mentor to students.
  • Establishes and maintains behavior standards.
  • Formulates and implements behavior modification programs for students.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
  • Encourages students to think independently along with developing and expressing original ideas.
  • Evaluates students' progress; maintains records; prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with students, counselors and parents through conferences and other means.
  • Maintains professional licensing and familiarity through in-service education and self-selected professional books and instructional materials.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials.
  • Organizes and distributes classroom and materials.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required.
  • Meets state and federal mandated time lines and procedures for completing special education due process paperwork.
