About The Position

The Washougal School District is seeking a .4 FTE Middle School CTE Family & Consumer Science Teacher for the 2026-27 School Year. This position is a certificated, continuing contract role after a required provisional status. The teacher will be responsible for adhering to Career Education and Technical program standards, providing student leadership opportunities, leading/participating in CTE Advisory Committee meetings, attending state-sponsored workshops, articulating classes with post-secondary education, developing business partnerships, designing learning experiences and assessments, and supporting industry certifications. The role also emphasizes fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, addresses equity gaps, and increases cultural competence among staff and students. The teacher will instruct students in citizenship and subject matter, provide individual and group instruction, identify student needs, cooperate with other staff, participate in the evaluation process, develop appropriate instructional materials, establish and maintain student behavior standards, evaluate student growth, communicate with parents, maintain records, participate in curricular and faculty programs, create an effective classroom environment, and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities. The position begins August 24, 2026, with a salary range of $66,137 to $124,653 (pro-rated based on FTE), based on the 2025-26 salary schedule and placement determined by education and experience. Requirements

  • OSPI/WA state CTE Teaching Certificate with a Family and Consumer Sciences endorsement or multiple subjects (V190707 or V200002)
  • Must hold a Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate related to Family & Consumer Sciences (V190707 or V200002) or be eligible for CTE certification by demonstrating a minimum of three years of gainful employment (non-teaching) in a variety of Family and Consumer Science roles.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate

  • Skills required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: controlling and motivating students; maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of state and federal laws that govern school districts, age appropriate activities, stages of child development, and safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances; to work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and to operate equipment using defined methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; to work with similar types of data; and to utilize specific, job-related equipment.
  • Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: must be trained in advanced placement art; fostering positive relationships; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience within the last six years is preferred for eligibility for CTE certification by demonstrating a minimum of three years of gainful employment (non-teaching) in a variety of Family and Consumer Science roles.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience with middle school students preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in FACS National Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State.
  • Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professional development, including advising CTSOs or local equivalents.
  • Lead and/or participate in CTE Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Attend state-sponsored, required workshops and conferences.
  • Articulate classes with post-secondary education when possible.
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships.
  • Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning.
  • Provide opportunities for students to achieve industry certifications.
  • Support the development of an environment where all students and staff feel a strong sense of belonging, validated, and accepted.
  • Lead for equity toward college and career readiness.
  • Nurture a school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
  • Publicly draw attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students with plans to address their elimination.
  • Initiate activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff, informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
  • Teach to district approved course goals and objectives (course framework).
  • Evaluate the individual student and appropriately report student progress.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and subject matter specified by state law and administrative regulations of the school district.
  • Provide individual and group instruction so that each student can achieve scholastic educational objectives.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process in conformance with the approved district guidelines.
  • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for the instruction of students with wide ranges of mental, physical, social and emotional maturation.
  • Establish and maintain the standard of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities.
  • Evaluate intellectual and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.
  • Communicate with parents.
  • Hold parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress.
  • Maintain records and submit reports as required or appropriate.
  • Participate in curricular and other developmental programs as required.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Create an effective and interactive classroom environment (both live and digital) for learning.

  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during assigned periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
