About The Position

Under general supervision, the Facility Worker II performs a wide variety of facility operations, event support, custodial, maintenance, and grounds-related duties for the Convention Center, Civic Center, Fairgrounds, and related facilities. Responsible for setting up and breaking down events, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, operating equipment, monitoring building systems, and ensuring facilities are prepared and operational for public events and daily activities. Provides lead direction to assigned crew members and temporary staff during event operations and facility projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in facility operations, event setup, custodial services, maintenance, or a related field.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Ability to work on-call status and respond to facility emergencies as needed.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in convention centers, civic centers, arenas, event venues, or public facilities.
  • Experience supervising or leading work crews.
  • Forklift and/or aerial lift certification.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance systems and event operations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Performs facility setup and teardown for meetings, conventions, trade shows, banquets, concerts, sporting events, fairs, and other public or private events.
  • Reads and interprets event diagrams, floor plans, blueprints, and setup instructions to ensure accurate and timely event preparation.
  • Arranges tables, chairs, staging, pipe and drape, barricades, risers, backdrops, banners, video screens, spotlights, and related equipment.
  • Opens, closes, secures, and inspects buildings and Fairgrounds facilities before, during, and after events.
  • Monitors events and facilities to ensure compliance with fire, life safety, occupancy, and operational regulations.
  • Responds to operational issues, customer concerns, emergencies, spills, or facility-related problems during events.
  • Performs custodial and janitorial duties including cleaning restrooms, fixtures, partitions, mirrors, floors, dispensers, and trash receptacles.
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums, pressure washes, and maintains interior and exterior areas of facilities and grounds.
  • Assists with preventative maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Monitors and responds to facility operating systems including HVAC systems, alarm systems, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, lighting systems, public address systems, and fountains.
  • Assists in training staff on proper operation of equipment, safety procedures, facility systems, and event setup requirements.
  • Schedules and coordinates work assignments for facility crews and temporary staff during events and projects.
  • Operates forklifts, scissor lifts, tractors, leaf blowers, pressure washers, grounds equipment, and various power and hand tools in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Replaces light bulbs and performs minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory of chemicals, custodial supplies, maintenance equipment, tools, and event materials.
  • Maintains RV water and electrical hookups when applicable.
  • Provides courteous assistance and information to patrons, vendors, exhibitors, contractors, and the general public.
  • Answers telephones and directs visitors or callers to appropriate personnel or event locations.
  • Completes reports, work orders, inspection logs, and other documentation as required.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses.
  • Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
