About The Position

Outlast is disrupting the bulk recyclables industry, a ~$1 trillion market largely untouched by technology. Our platform connects suppliers and buyers, facilitating safe and effortless transactions of materials. We also provide global logistics, financing, and quality control. Our focus is on optimizing the customer experience and promoting environmental sustainability through recycling. Outlast is experiencing rapid growth, securing significant funding and contracts. We are seeking a Facility Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Houston facility. This is a hands-on role for an experienced scrap or recycling operator who will manage all aspects of the facility, ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient operation with high data accuracy. The mission is to run a tight, reliable facility, instill data and inventory discipline, build a strong team, and drive improvements in throughput, cost, and uptime.

Requirements

  • Direct experience running or serving as #2 at a scrap yard or recycling facility.
  • Industry experience including knowledge of material grades, weighing and scale operations, QC inspection, and load placement.
  • Hands-on ownership of receiving and shipping documentation, scale tickets, and inventory reconciliation with demonstrable accuracy results.
  • Proven crew leadership: scheduling, work assignment, coaching, and corrective action for yard or equipment operators and processing staff.
  • Systems fluency: comfortable using operational software daily for data entry, auditing, and reporting.
  • A player-coach mentality, willing to personally inspect loads, run the scale, and operate equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, managing reporting, recordkeeping, and vendor/customer communication.
  • Comfortable building SOPs, layouts, and operating cadences from foundational elements.
  • Based in Houston, TX; on-site daily with minimal travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience owning safety programs and compliance documentation.
  • Experience managing vendors and facility expenses against a budget.
  • Preventive-maintenance know-how for shears, balers, loaders, forklifts, grapple material handlers, and scales.

Responsibilities

  • Run the full daily rhythm of the facility, including opening and securing, managing delivery schedules, receiving, sorting, processing, and shipping.
  • Personally inspect loads, operate the scale, and use equipment as needed, leading from the floor.
  • Serve customers at the facility and execute every transaction accurately.
  • Escalate issues to the VP of Operations with recommendations.
  • Ensure all receipts, shipments, scale tickets, inventory adjustments, and customer transactions are entered into the Outlast platform daily with audit-clean records.
  • Establish inventory reconciliation processes and meet reported inventory accuracy targets.
  • Maintain organized and identifiable material staging.
  • Stabilize staffing, set daily work assignments, and coach operators.
  • Address underperformance and build coverage depth within the team.
  • Invest in people and build bench strength.
  • Own safety programs, training records, and environmental and regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Manage vendor relationships, approve invoices and purchase requests, and track facility expenses against budget.
  • Manage preventive maintenance and downtime for facility equipment.
  • Deliver regular KPI reporting on throughput, safety, inventory accuracy, downtime, and cost.
  • Surface risks and capital expenditure needs with business cases.
  • Identify and implement workflow, layout, or process improvements with quantified impact.

Benefits

  • Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 a year, depends on experience.
