About The Position

The Facility Maintenance Worker is an integral part of the CCSAI, with full accountability and responsibility to the Student Centre and Athletics & Wellness Centre. The Facility Maintenance Worker duties shall be to well and faithfully serve the CCSAI in such capacity and at all times use best efforts to further promote the business of the CCSAI, and, in conjunction with such duties and responsibilities, they shall follow all general and specific directions and instructions from time to time of the CCSAI.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in facility operations
  • Candidates must have a valid SIN document (1 year to expiry) and/or proof of eligibility to work in Canada
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work alone, under pressure and manage multiple concurrent priorities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to handle emergency and/or crisis situations effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs of supplies and equipment
  • Ability to work at heights and operate lift devices
  • Strong relationship management skills with demonstrative ability to motivate a team of employees in a diverse environment

Nice To Haves

  • College diploma in facility management, maintenance, or a related field is preferred
  • Certification in plumbing, electrical work and HVAC will be an asset
  • Standard First Aid/CPR, WHMIS 2015, Working at Heights, Fall Protection, and Aerial Work Platform certifications are an asset
  • Prior work experience in multipurpose or public buildings is an asset
  • Familiarity with sport facility setup, i.e. basketball, volleyball, badminton, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry-related legislation, regulations and the OH&S Act
  • Knowledge of various facilities and building systems, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.
  • Experience using tools/equipment common to the trades
  • Understanding of technical manuals and ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Facilities-related software, i.e. BAS systems, Fusion, CMMS, Dayforce, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Facilities Manager in the supervision of part-time operations staff in the morning & weekend shifts
  • Performs minor maintenance repairs as assigned, including but not limited to painting, light bulbs, doors, plumbing, and grounds keeping
  • General repairs to walls, including patching, sanding & painting
  • Basic plumbing repairs, including unplugging sinks & toilets, tap, cartridge & valve repairs
  • Basic electrical repairs, including repairs to receptacles, light switches and ballasts
  • Operates hand tools such as saws, drills, etc.
  • Performs cleaning and sanitization duties across facilities
  • Facility grounds maintenance, including lawn cutting, snow removal, etc.
  • Responds to urgent maintenance requests
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks on facility equipment outlined by the Facilities Manager and coordinates safety/fire system inspections with Vipond
  • Be an on-site contact for daily operations, such as coordinating and assisting with set up & tear down for events in the facilities, vendor/rental set-ups and service requests, etc.
  • Assists facility’s daily opening/closing procedures
  • Reports to the Facilities Manager for any requisitions of facilities, supplies and materials
  • Be an on-site contact for contractors
  • Other position-related duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager and the Director, Finance & Administration
  • Assists the Facilities Manager in monitoring building operations and reports issues appropriately
  • Ensure facilities are maintained consistently with best practices and reports to the Facility Manager of any necessary requirements to ensure the safety of all who access the facilities
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager and/or the Director, Finance & Administration
  • With the Facilities Manager, coordinates part-time operations staff hiring, training, and work shifts
  • Complete checklists and maintenance logs for facility equipment
  • Complete accident/incident forms as required for people and property
  • Must adhere to the CCSAI Code of Conduct, in compliance with the Centennial College policies, and the Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Attend training, facilities meetings, staff meetings and other College meetings as delegated by the managers, Director, Finance & Administration and/or the Executive Director
  • Be conversant with, and fully adhere to, the bylaws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the CCSAI, the College, and the Ontario Human Rights Code
