About The Position

Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician to join their Facility and Housing program. This role is responsible for the smooth operation and upkeep of various facilities, ensuring operational efficiency through routine maintenance. The position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) offering career progression and salary incentives based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Three years of experience in building trades such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry or plumbing, and groundskeeping or heavy equipment operation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair and grounds keeping.
Ability to operate grounds equipment and hand and power tools.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety.
Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview.
Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Nice To Haves

Experience changing ground fault interrupter (GFI)/ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) preferred.
HVAC or tradesman licensing/certification preferred.
Skill in maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists in performing HVAC, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, locksmith, and other trade work in the maintenance and repair of assigned buildings including residential homes.
Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and light and heavy equipment.
Assembles and moves office furniture and equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance on building and grounds maintenance equipment.
Conducts regular maintenance services and inspections of residential home systems.
Maintains and purchases supplies and tools.
Maintains records of all maintenance and repair activities, parts used, supplies needed, and work orders.
Performs other work as required.
