About The Position

The Facility Maintenance Technician II plays an important role in maintaining, repairing, and preserving the Schermerhorn Symphony Center — one of Nashville’s premier performance venues. This position supports the daily care, safety, functionality, and appearance of the building so that artists, guests, staff, and visitors experience the venue at its best. Salaried/Hourly: Full Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly) Job Summary: The Facility Maintenance Technician II assists with the daily maintenance and care of Schermerhorn Symphony Center, including public areas, performance spaces, administrative offices, backstage areas, and support spaces. This role is ideal for a hands-on, solutions-oriented maintenance professional who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants to contribute to the behind-the-scenes operations of a nationally recognized performing arts venue.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree, GED, required.
  • Two to three years of related experience and/or training preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of related facilities, maintenance, building systems, or trades experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, drywall, carpentry, metalwork, painting, seating, flooring, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate machinery, mechanical equipment, tools, lifts, ladders, and vehicles.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to work well with staff, contractors, artists, guests, and team members.
  • Helpful, responsive attitude with the ability to develop creative solutions to maintenance needs and facility issues.
  • Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, and keep supervisors informed of work activity, progress, and concerns.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects while balancing urgent needs with routine maintenance priorities.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours depending on operational needs, event schedules, emergencies, or required building system maintenance.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Outlook for email communication.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

  • Reliable transportation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Repair fixtures in public spaces, performance spaces, offices, backstage hallways, storage areas, and dressing rooms.
  • Diagnose and repair building electrical systems, including 110v, 277v, and 480v systems.
  • Diagnose and repair commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Monitor, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC systems.
  • Monitor, diagnose, and repair exhaust fans, belts, and motors.
  • Repair locks and door closures.
  • Repair commercial plumbing systems.
  • Patch, paint, and restore surfaces that are worn or damaged.
  • Replace facility lamps and ballasts.
  • Maintain seating in the concert hall to help ensure full seating capacity and a high-quality guest experience.
  • Install and/or remove banners and marketing materials, as directed.
  • Perform daily and routine maintenance of building systems.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer with maintenance projects and special assignments.
  • Support Concert Operations teams by helping fulfill facility and production-related needs.
  • Be available for occasional nights, weekends, and emergency response needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment in all mechanical and facility spaces.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned, even though they may not be considered primary duties.
