About The Position

The main responsibility of the Laboratory Consultant in the Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section, is to conduct certification surveys for the clinical laboratories in North Carolina to determine compliance with federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations through the survey process. Job responsibilities include: Conducting inspections Investigating complaints applying a defined protocol. Communicating with laboratory staff, directors and complainants on a routine basis. Generating reports using various software applications. he Facility Compliance Consultant II spends an average of three days per week traveling to conduct inspections/surveys. Occasionally inspections are required on weekends and night shift. Although management attempts to schedule inspections within a region, the consultant needs to expect overnight stays when the location is greater than 60 miles from their home-base.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a health or human service-related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years’ experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or Master’s degree in a health or human services related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years’ experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of laboratory experience preferably with exposure to all laboratory branches and one to two years supervisory or comparable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices and recommended standards in a variety of test categories
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and most currently recognized professional standards of practice applicable to all suppliers of laboratory services and the ability to interpret such rules and regulations in a reasonable and consistent manner
  • Experience with proficiency testing, quality control and assurance, patient test management practices, statistical data analysis and uses, management principles and problem solving
  • Experience using a computer and MS Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by NCA (National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel)
  • Clinical, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or other similar lab experience
