About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for ensuring that facilities are kept clean and rules are obeyed. The role also involves recording scores. Candidates may be required to hold a valid Virginia driver's license if the operation of County vehicles will be part of their required duties. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
  • Knowledge of the game required.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to use common office machines/tools, including tractors, mowers, snow blowers, popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs.
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in establishing, applying and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and interpret industrial and economic data and to make sound recommendations from the information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with governmental officials, business industrial representatives, staff and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
  • Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
  • Ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures.

  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, determine percentages, and determine time and weight.

  • Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles game balls, flags, scorecards, bases, umpire’s gear scorecards and scorebooks.
  • Notifies proper Parks and Recreation staff member if officials do not show up.
  • Patrols fields periodically making sure spectators stay only in authorized areas.
  • Makes sure first aid kit is available.
  • Distributes makeup schedules or other correspondence to coaches.
  • Cleans bleacher areas, taking flags down, removing bases, and collecting balls and score books after the final game.
