About The Position

This position is responsible for performing the preventive and corrective maintenance on facility and operational equipment for the site and overseeing a department of mechanics. The role involves leading by example in modeling safety behaviors, ensuring compliance with EHS policies, and participating in injury management and incident investigations. The technician will troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components of equipment, adhering to safety guidelines. General facility repairs, including building, grounds, lighting, and plumbing, are also part of the responsibilities. The role requires dismantling and reassembling machinery, replacing parts, and potentially preparing specifications for repairs. Prioritizing maintenance requests, identifying equipment improvements, managing the preventive maintenance program, and establishing vendor relationships are key duties. Ensuring the quality of repairs, employee efficiency, and proper disposal of condemned containers are also expected. The position assists with personnel issues, reviews department backlog, and coordinates the flow of repair parts.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years Maintenance experience.
  • Excellent mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge for use of mechanical/pneumatic tools, measuring equipment, automated systems and forklifts.
  • Some computer experience required (MS Office preferred).
  • Ability to work extended and weekend shifts, when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year college or technical program or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine theory, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pipefitting and machine design.
  • Knowledge of both Gas and Diesel-powered engines and drive train.
  • Knowledge of machinery and support systems according to manufacturer’s guidelines/specifications/manuals.
  • Ability to perform varied welding functions to include Stick, MIG, Plasma Cutter.
  • Understand different types of Welding Rod/Wire/Shielding Gas.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand equipment and tool drawings.
  • Forklift certified.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components of equipment.
  • Adhering to lockout tagout procedures and other safety guidelines.
  • Performing general facility repairs, including building, grounds, lighting, and plumbing.
  • Dismantling machinery to perform repairs, detect wear, misalignment, and other problems.
  • Reassembling machines, making necessary adjustments, and testing operations.
  • Replacing broken or defective parts on equipment or facility.
  • Preparing written specifications for major repairs or production of parts.
  • Making up bills of materials, selecting proper materials, tools, and equipment, and completing requisitions.
  • Prioritizing equipment maintenance requests with Plant Manager.
  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing improvements to equipment.
  • Managing the preventive maintenance program, including recordkeeping and recommended scheduled maintenance.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with outside maintenance and service vendors.
  • Ensuring quality of repairs performed.
  • Ensuring all employees can perform efficiently in all repair functions.
  • Ensuring condemned containers are disposed of properly.
  • Assisting with personnel issues.
  • Reviewing department backlog and assigning personnel accordingly.
  • Coordinating and expediting the flow of repair parts and materials from the parts cage to the mechanic workstations.
