About The Position

The Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) is seeking a Facility Administrator – Corrections to help lead a mission-driven team serving youth awaiting court outcomes. As a licensed Minnesota Department of Corrections facility, the JDC plays a critical role in providing safe, supportive, and culturally responsive services for residents ages 10 to 18+. This leadership position offers the opportunity to shape policies, guide staff, and make a meaningful impact on youth and the broader Hennepin County community. This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as a Corrections Division Manager. Invitations to interview will be based on an assessment of education and experience. Candidates that are selected for second interviews will be required to be in-person onsite. Applicants with convictions are not automatically disqualified. Each case is considered on its individual circumstances and the type of work. Requirements

  • Nine years or more of experience in corrections, two of which must have been in administration or supervision.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, behavioral/social science, or business, correctional, or public administration or equivalent and five years or more of the experience in corrections, two of which must have been in administration or supervision.
  • Master's degree or higher in criminal justice, behavioral/social science, or business, correctional, or public administration or equivalent and four years or more of experience in corrections.

  • Have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and modify correctional division policies and procedures to be consistent with departmental, county, and state regulations.
  • Make periodic evaluation of staff performance and operating units and take or recommend appropriate action.
  • Provide leadership to managers in hiring, motivating, and/or training of correctional division staff and participate in succession planning, as appropriate.
  • Assist with the preparation and administration of the division budget.
  • Address complaints from clients, residents, staff, community agencies, and the general public in coordinating efforts for resolution with the Professional Standards and Conduct Unit.
  • Develop objectives, standards, and controls necessary for administration of division programs and services at the JDC.
  • Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.
