About The Position

Under the direction of the Facility Trades Manager, the Trades Worker II performs skilled maintenance work and helps oversee District facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. This position focuses on the operation and maintenance of the Woodland Trails Park Pool during the pool season June-August. The Trades Worker II participates in a rotating on-call schedule and typically works Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., with occasional evenings required. Schedule may fluctuate for seasonal needs.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of building maintenance systems, construction practices, and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, physical, and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years combined experience in two (2) or more skilled construction or maintenance trades, such as: carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, concrete, or building engineering.
  • Certification or degree from a trade or technical school related to construction or maintenance trades.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled maintenance and repair work to ensure the safe, efficient, and attractive operation of Park District buildings, facilities, grounds, and playgrounds.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in two (2) or more construction-related trades, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, concrete, or building maintenance.
  • Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and specialized trade equipment.
  • Reads and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and work orders.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision while maintaining effective communication with supervisors and staff.
  • Assists with custodial duties and garbage cleanup in parks as needed.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and project documentation.
  • Communicates maintenance issues, repair needs, and project updates in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a positive, cooperative, and respectful working relationship with employees, contractors, and Park District patrons.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on playgrounds.
  • Performs snow removal and other seasonal maintenance duties as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as the primary maintenance lead for the Woodland Trails Park Pool who leads preparations of the facility for seasonal opening and winterization.
  • Shares daily maintenance responsibilities with other maintenance employees.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on pool systems and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance schedules to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Works with Pool Staff to ensure facilities operate properly and repairs are completed promptly.
  • Works with Recreation staff to support aquatic programs and special events.
  • Performs general building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and related repairs.
  • Conducts routine safety inspections of buildings and facilities.
  • Assists Facilities Trades Manager with monitoring the work of outside vendors and contractors.
  • Maintains maintenance records, inspection reports, and required documentation.
  • Performs or coordinate repairs and maintenance of fitness equipment.
  • Assists with custodial duties as needed.
  • Stands in for the Facilities & Trades Manager in their absence.
  • Responsible for assisting in the development and organization of a variety of maintenance programs, including Special Events.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the Park District’s policies and operations.
  • Assists with enforcing and interpreting those policies as needed.
  • Maintains maintenance records, inspection reports, and required documentation.
  • Continues education by attending classes, seminars, or conferences related to the position.
  • Attends River Trails Park District and Parks Department meetings as needed.
  • Prepare schedules, routines, and special reports as directed.
