About The Position

The Facilities Skilled Trades HVAC Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of HVAC/R equipment on Canaveral Port Authority property. This position requires an advanced understanding of air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration principles, including the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair high- and low-voltage control systems. This position reports directly to the Facilities Manager and requires the ability to work weekends.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days
  • Seven (7) years of hands-on Commercial /Industrial maintenance and repair experience on HVAC/R equipment.
  • HVAC Certification from secondary or technical school
  • Universal EPA Certification
  • Must be a team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and a self-starter
  • Must possess excellent customer service focus and superior communication skills
  • Able to secure a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must have basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Chiller maintenance experience is preferred.
  • NATE HVAC Certification Preferred
  • Journeyman’s License Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Must possess working knowledge of all aspects of HVAC/R equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment including replacement of defective parts such as thermostats, safety switches, fan controls, fan motors, pumps, bearings, relays, fuses, compressors, and coils as needed.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, as well as the ability to use acetylene torch, vacuum pumps and reclaim machines.
  • Skills and abilities to inspect, repair, and modify HVAC equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers is necessary to access building automated systems and emails.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls systems and ability to troubleshoot such systems.
  • Complete work orders and forms to ensure all documents regarding repairs/maintenance are complete.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics and M.E.P. as they relate to buildings.
  • Apply methods, practices, and procedures in prevention, maintenance, inspection, and repair.
  • Safely operate state vehicles and/or construction equipment when weather conditions permit.
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Identifying maintenance risk of equipment.
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Performing emergency repairs.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA).
  • During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
