Facilities Technician

Pillar ChurchScottsdale, AZ
Onsite

About The Position

The Facilities Technician is the operational anchor of Pillar's Facilities team — present when our guests are present. This person owns the day-to-day cleanliness, readiness, and presentation of our campus, with a heavy emphasis on weekend coverage and Sunday evening closing. This is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes role for someone who finds joy in serving the guest they may never meet. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:21–25, every part of the body matters — and the readiness of our facilities is a direct extension of how we love our people on the weekend they walk in.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail — sees what the guest sees and fixes it before they notice.
  • High level of ownership — closes loops without being asked twice.
  • Willingness to serve behind the scenes — finds joy in the work no one notices when it's done well and recognizes that facilities work is ministry.
  • Flexibility with operational demands — potential back to back weekends; comfortable with shifting plans as needs arise from the team.
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player with the rest of the facilities team.
  • Physical readiness — able to lift and carry 50+ lbs, climb ladders, kneel, bend, stand for extended periods, and work in mechanical rooms and outdoor heat.
  • Working knowledge of basic maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical fundamentals); willing to learn and grow what you don't know yet.
  • Teachable attitude that proactively seeks feedback and takes action to improve.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written — showing respect in all interactions with team and congregants.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Gmail, Google Calendar / Master Calendar, Planning Center, MS Office, Asana).
  • Committed follower of Jesus aligned with Pillar's statement of faith & Lead Here Expectations.

  • Before service: complete setup walk-throughs — parking signs, cones, flags, doors, thermostats, signage, restroom stocking, baptismal readiness.
  • During service: continuous walk-throughs of restrooms, common areas, trash, spills. Respond to facility issues immediately so service is uninterrupted.
  • Between services: full reset of high-traffic spaces — bathrooms restocked, trash pulled, floors clean, lobby and welcome areas refreshed.

  • Coordinate with the Sunday-night 3rd-party cleaning team on hand-off and any priority callouts.
  • Be the last facilities person on campus — leave it ready for Monday morning.

  • Floor care — vacuum, mop, spot-clean spills as they occur.
  • Window cleaning — interior and exterior glass on a recurring schedule and as needed.
  • Trash removal — interior bins, lobby cans, exterior containers, mid-service pulls during peak traffic.
  • Common-space detailing — chairs, tables, surfaces, lobby presentation, door handles, signage.
  • Maintain a "guest-ready" standard at all times.
  • Set up the baptismal for scheduled baptism services — water level, temperature, towels, accessibility, etc.
  • Perform post-service drain, clean, and sanitize.
  • Maintain baptismal equipment and supplies inventory.
  • Set up and tear down for Tier 1 (weekend / churchwide) and Tier 2 (mid-week recurring) events per the Master Calendar and Planning Center.
  • Full room resets between events — tables, chairs, AV, signage, trash, vacuuming.
  • Coordinate with ministry leads on event-specific needs.
  • Support routine and preventative maintenance under oversight’s direction — HVAC, plumbing, electrical basics, lighting, doors, general repairs.
  • Execute all work orders, log completion, and surface deferred items.
  • Proactively identify facility issues during daily walk-throughs — fix the small stuff before it becomes urgent.
  • Support facility improvement projects (paint, drywall, carpet patches, minor construction) as assigned.
  • Help oversight build, lead, and develop the Facilities Volunteer Team (extension of the Build Team).
  • On-the-ground coordinator for volunteers during weekend setup and teardown.
  • Live Pillar's servant-leader posture with volunteers — go first, go the extra mile.

  • Available via phone 24/7 for facility emergencies (HVAC, water leaks, security, doors, ceiling leaks, etc.).
