About The Position

Employees in this position install, maintain, repair, and inspect mechanical equipment and systems. The employee performs a range of maintenance assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations. Performs preventative maintenance on facilities equipment as assigned and completes PM documentation related to the work regarding equipment, supplies, and materials. Ensures the compliance of all hospital policies and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules while conducting job duties. This position responds to scheduled and non-scheduled service response calls for a variety of tasks that may require, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC and other skills. Service areas for this position include (but are not limited to) the Main Campus building and our offsite offices/buildings. This includes (but is not limited to) mechanical spaces, Boiler Rooms, CSR, Kitchen, and Laundry. Exceptional customer service and professionalism are necessary to successfully represent the GFH Engineering Department to our patients, visitors and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated literacy is required.
  • Some computer skills required to accurately and descriptively document all completed work, order materials, etc.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in one or more facility trade; mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, or plumbing.
  • Mechanical aptitude, demonstrated through on-the-job and educational activities.
  • Ability to safely and properly use hand and power tools, electrical meters and test equipment as well as maintenance lubricants, solvents and other industrial chemicals.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under minimal supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents/bulletins.
  • Some computer skills required. Ability to accurately and descriptively document all completed work, order materials, etc.
  • Well developed communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License Required

Nice To Haves

  • 2 year trade school education, or 5 years experience, in a mechanical and/or electrical trade related to facilities operation and maintenance. Experience as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, industrial or manufacturing environment may be considered.
  • Journeyman and/or Apprentice Licensure preferred
  • US EPA Refrigerant Certification (Class 1, 2, or 3) Licensure preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs service and repair activities for a wide variety of patient and customer needs including but not limited to; lighting repairs/replacements, heating/cooling calls, plumbing repairs, minor electrical repairs, minor painting patching and carpentry, ceiling tile replacements.
  • Manages patient television inventory, system, programming & minor repairs.
  • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance activities on hospital equipment and systems. Cleaning and lubricating equipment, filter changes, refrigerant handling, cleaning heat pump and fan/coil units, checking lighting, exit signage, and doors. Installs and repairs signage, pictures, cabinets, shelving, window coverings etc. Repairs and maintains stretchers, carts, wheelchairs and other equipment as required. Supports TJC Compliance activities – through Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance activities - for the Environment of Care, Life Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
  • Repairs and rebuilds machinery, motors and equipment found in the hospital utility systems and departments as well as beds, stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Assists skilled trades as necessary.
  • Assists with snow removal and other duties as assigned
