About The Position

The Facilities Technician supports reliable, efficient, and safe building operations during first shift. Guided by our values, “Safety Above All”, we proactively manage the risks inherent in human spaceflight through our daily actions. This role focuses on general facility upkeep. The technician will respond proactively to issues, perform preventive maintenance, and collaborate with IT, Security, and Facilities to sustain critical infrastructure and customer satisfaction. Support the company strategy by holding ourselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in facilities maintenance, HVAC, or building operations.
  • Hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems and BAS monitoring/troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of humidification systems.
  • Basic electrical skills: breaker resets, lighting circuits, safe work practices.
  • General maintenance skills: painting, patching, door hardware, minor plumbing.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently on weekends and manage priorities.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and BAS; comfortable with tablets/laptops for documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders.
  • Adhere to set directions and guidelines from team leader to support collaboration across teams to complete projects
  • Demonstrate willingness to adjust thinking and behavior
  • Ability to communicate in a manner that is timely, respectful, and open to other ideas
  • Strong safety forward thinking, practice good housekeeping, tool control, recognizing the importance of properly handling hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Familiar with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with common BAS platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Distech).
  • Familiarity with LOTO procedures and NFPA 70E safe work practices.
  • Prior experience in data center, lab, or critical environment facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for comfort, energy efficiency, and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve HVAC issues promptly; escalate complex faults to senior techs or contractors.
  • Perform routine filter changes, belt inspections, coil cleaning, and document performance checks.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot BAS alarms, trends, and setpoints to ensure systems operate smoothly and efficiently.
  • Adjust sequences within approved parameters; identify controls issues and coordinate fixes with Controls/IT as required.
  • Monitor and maintain humidification equipment to support air quality and environmental requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve humidifier issues (water quality, steam generation, sensors) and document corrective actions.
  • Safely reset breakers and address minor electrical issues (e.g., receptacles, lighting, low-voltage device power checks) per EH&S and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Identify and escalate panel/wiring concerns, ensuring minimal downtime and enhanced safety.
  • Perform routine tasks (painting, patching, minor carpentry) to maintain a clean, functional, and professional environment.
  • Complete door hardware repairs (hinges, closers, strikes) and minor plumbing repairs (leaks, drains, fixtures).
  • Respond quickly to roof or building leaks during rain events; execute temporary mitigation, protect assets, and coordinate vendors.
  • Support power, network, and environmental incidents by performing documented steps and communicating status.
  • Operate independently during weekend hours with limited onsite supervision; prioritize work orders, close tickets, and keep stakeholders informed.
  • Maintain thorough documentation in CMMS and adhere to SOPs.
  • Provide professional, timely support to building occupants; maintain strong communication and follow-through.
  • Build trust through reliable service, clear updates, and proactive issue prevention.
  • Use CMMS, BAS front-ends, digital tools, and handheld devices to manage work orders, logs, and equipment data.
  • Read and interpret technical documentation (schematics, O&M manuals, sequence of operations).
  • Identify trends, recurring issues, and failure modes; recommend corrective actions and improvements.
  • Support lessons-learned and continuous improvement efforts across Facilities, IT, and Security.
