About The Position

Join the Housing Facilities team as a Facilities Technician III! We are seeking energetic and skilled candidates to provide repair and maintenance of all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and refrigeration systems serving the residents and guests who call University Housing their home. Work with a team of dedicated professionals focused on excellent customer service with no sales component. Base hours are all daytime hours with flexible start time. This position may have a rotating weekend schedule or scheduled on-call with standby and call back compensation.

Requirements

A minimum of 2 years of commercial maintenance experience
Experience or training with installing, diagnosing, and repairing HVAC systems
Experience or training with testing and monitoring systems for maximum operating efficiency
Driver’s License – Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
Basic knowledge of the design, operation and functions of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as they relate to building HVAC-related systems
A mechanical aptitude with a willingness and desire to continue learning
Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and occupational safety associated with the operation, treatment and repairs of same
Ability to read and utilize mechanical and electronic thermometers, multi-meters, pressure gauges
Basic understanding of electrical systems and service
Basic understanding of plumbing systems
Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and complete basic level repair service on electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
Experience with computerized database records or work order system
Knowledge of maintenance and repair of appliances and equipment used for food preparation, commercial laundry equipment and basic home kitchen appliances
Organizational and record keeping skills to prioritize and document work
A desire to serve residents, staff and guests in University Housing
Good communication and interpersonal skills and exercise a strong sense of priority and time management.

Nice To Haves

More than 2 years of maintenance experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
Related experience in a commercial, industrial, hotel, large multi-family, hospital, or similar environment
On-call experience
Industrial, technical, or HVAC-related degrees or certifications
Completed applicable safety trainings (OSHA 10/30, equipment training)

Responsibilities

Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
Services and maintains university vehicles and snow removal equipment, assists with snow removal
Assists with the oversight of student workloads, including training and installation, removal, and maintenance of window air conditioning units
Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
