About The Position

The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician III to join our dynamic Public Services Team. The ideal candidate will perform journeyman level manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in performing trades activities in the maintenance and repair of buildings and their equipment and accessories and in general upkeep of municipal structures and facilities. According to work assignments, employees in this classification apply trades skills in rough and finish carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, electricity maintenance, HVAC, plumbing and fabrication. Work assignments may be wholly in one line of craft and at one location but generally involve a variety of skills and are performed in many different locations. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum three (3) years previous vocational training, or work experience in the construction or trades fields.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s license with overall good driving record required.
  • If driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire date

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum five (5) years previous vocational training, or work experience in the construction or trades fields.
  • HVAC license/certification. If the City chooses to require an HVAC license/certification, the incumbent must obtain within 1 year after employment.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary contact for any building issues (i.e. climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs).
  • Performs journeyman level work in application of various trades occupations, e.g., carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fabrication.
  • Performs various building/facilities security and maintenance tasks, e.g., doors, locks, window, awnings, screens, glass, mirrors.
  • Performs various building/facilities replacement and installation, e.g., electrical switches and outlets, plumbing fixtures and drainage systems, ceiling and roof tiles.
  • Apply trades skills to new construction projects, e.g., tile installation, drywall hanging/finishing, painting walls and fixtures.
  • Maintains various records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, time sheets, materials required/used, purchase requisitions.
  • Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs maintenance of air conditioning systems (including installation of a/c wall units), refrigeration equipment and ice makers.
  • Performs metal fabrication tasks, e.g., welding, brazing, cutting.
  • Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
  • Performs immediate cleaning duties necessary to maintain clean facilities.
  • Coordinates and assists with departmental and employee moves.
  • May be required to climb to work on City buildings roof tops or possibly using the bucket truck for various duties.
  • Cross-trains to provide support in other areas of Public Service as needed.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
