About The Position

The Facilities Technician I supports the Museum's mission by helping maintain safe, functional, and welcoming buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities for our guests and staff. This position performs routine preventive maintenance and repairs, responds to facility needs, and helps keep the Museum's 84-acre campus operating safely and smoothly.

Requirements

Previous experience performing basic maintenance, facilities, construction, or related work, with demonstrated ability to learn and safely perform work across multiple building trades.
Experience in one or more building trades, such as carpentry, painting/drywall, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, welding, or hardscape work.
Ability to safely use and maintain hand tools, power tools, equipment, and vehicles necessary to perform assigned work.
Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and communicate job-related and safety information effectively.
Ability to perform basic job-related calculations and measurements, including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, dimensions, and quantities.
Demonstrate high mental acuity
Ability to use email, mobile devices, and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive assignments, communicate, and document work.
Ability to work independently on routine assignments and collaboratively as part of a team.
General skills in computer basics, internet, and MS Office including spreadsheets.
Ability to recognize when work requires additional expertise, equipment, supervision, or contractor/vendor support.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and ability to safely operate Museum vehicles as assigned.

Nice To Haves

Technical training or trade-specific certifications in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction, or a related field.
Experience safely operating power equipment such as chainsaws, rotary hammers, angle grinders, or similar equipment.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, and Word.
OSHA-10, First Aid/AED/CPR, or other relevant safety training or certification.

Responsibilities

Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to Museum buildings, equipment, and infrastructure within the employee's training and skill level.
Perform basic work across a variety of building trades, which may include carpentry, painting and drywall, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, lighting, door hardware, hardscaping, caulking, and similar maintenance and repair work.
Complete assigned work orders safely, efficiently, and accurately and document work performed in the Museum's CMMS.
Identify additional repair and maintenance needs through observation and communication with Museum staff and creates appropriate work orders in the CMMS.
Recognize work requiring specialized expertise, licensing, additional equipment, or contractor/vendor support and communicate those needs promptly to Facilities leadership.
Take appropriate initiative on unassigned or open work orders while coordinating priorities with Facilities leadership.
Respond promptly and professionally to facilities-related requests and concerns from Museum staff and guests and provide appropriate updates while work is underway and upon completion.
Perform Museum opening and closing procedures as assigned and help ensure that building systems are operating safely and appropriately.
Perform prescribed setups for Museum rentals, programs, and events and assist in ensuring that necessary building systems, including HVAC and lighting, are operational.
Perform basic cosmetic building maintenance and repairs, including drywall patching, painting, and caulking.
Perform routine building and equipment maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, clearing minor plumbing blockages, and servicing soap and paper-product dispensers.
Assist with routine cleaning and upkeep of Museum buildings as needed and coordinates with contracted janitorial services as assigned.
Assist with inventory, organization, and distribution of housekeeping and facilities supplies.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe Facilities work and storage areas and helps ensure that tools and equipment are properly maintained and safely operational.
Collect and properly dispose of trash and recycling as needed.
Assist Outdoor Landscaping Environments staff with grounds-related work, including blowing, sweeping, and snow and ice removal.
Assist other Museum departments with facilities-related projects and operational needs as assigned.
Use Museum radios and other communication tools appropriately and follow written and verbal instructions.
Review Museum email and CMMS assignments each scheduled workday and respond appropriately to work orders and communications.
Communicate openly and promptly with Facilities leadership regarding work assignments, scheduling, time-off requests, material and equipment needs, safety concerns, and barriers to completing assigned work.
Follow Museum safety policies and procedures, applicable OSHA requirements, equipment operating instructions, and required personal protective equipment practices.
Engage with Museum guests in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience.
Demonstrate core values and advance the Museum's Strategic Plan through interactions with staff, volunteers, vendors, and guests.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
