Job Summary This position will be responsible for supervising the continuous operation, maintenance, and repair of all critical utility systems and associated facility equipment, ensuring maximum uptime, efficiency, and regulatory compliance within the manufacturing facility.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with the operation and maintenance of at least three of the following critical systems: boilers/steam, ammonia refrigeration, water treatment, or wastewater systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools, and interpreting schematics and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Thorough understanding of safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), confined space entry, hot work, and proper handling of chemicals.
  • Must demonstrate good judgement when carrying out duties as assigned.
  • Work with vendors on various projects and assignments.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a utilities, maintenance, or facilities role within a commercial or industrial environment
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • English is required as the written and spoken language.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire a state issued Driver’s License.
  • Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves, and safety glasses must be used in the performance of duties.
  • Proper lifting techniques must be employed at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or Technical Certification in Mechanical Maintenance, HVAC, Facilities Management, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Certifications such as Boiler Operator License, Universal Refrigerant Handler Certification (or RETA certification for ammonia), or Water/Wastewater Operator License are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and quality standards of all potable and process water distribution systems, including water treatment equipment (softeners, filters, and chemical injection systems).
  • Supervise the operation and collection of wastewater treatment systems; ensure routine testing is completed accurately to guarantee strict compliance with environmental discharge regulations.
  • Direct the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of boilers, steam generators, piping, condensate return systems, and steam traps.
  • Manage the troubleshooting and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems; partner closely with the Safety department on the Aqueous Ammonia Process Safety Management (APSM) program to meet all regulatory mandates.
  • Coordinate the servicing, preventative maintenance, and repair of air compressors, dryers, and compressed air distribution networks.
  • Lead the team responsible for general facility upkeep, including HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing, building fabric, and basic electrical distribution troubleshooting.
  • Monitor plant operations via Building Management Systems (BMS) or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, ensuring technicians respond promptly to alarms or system variances.
  • Maintaining accurate logs and records of all maintenance work, chemical inventories, and utility readings.
  • Ensure the team maintains accurate logs and records regarding maintenance activities, chemical inventories, and utility readings for regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP).
  • Supervise facility technicians, assign work orders, manage external contractors, and perform other supervisory duties as assigned to support plant operations.
  • Support and enforce SQF / QA, GMP, Safety policies and procedures, and production needs. “Food Safety and Quality” are the responsibilities of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position will oversee the utility operator/s.
