About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody values of excellence, compassion, teamwork, and purpose to join their Facilities and Support Services team in the role of Facilities Supervisor. This role will work onsite at their new Central Utility Plant in Downtown Indianapolis, IN. This is a unique opportunity to lead a skilled team, oversee critical utility systems, and play a key role in the startup and long-term success of a facility that directly supports patient care across a 900-bed hospital campus. The successful hire will help establish operations, processes, and team culture within the new Central Utility Plant. The utilities managed by this team support a 900-bed hospital campus, making reliability and operational excellence mission-critical. This role will be heavily involved in commissioning, training, equipment activation, and building long-term operational success. The supervisor will oversee critical systems including boilers, chillers, steam production, hot water, and chilled water distribution. The role involves people leadership, contractor coordination, strategic maintenance planning, and operational troubleshooting.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Requires a valid driver’s license.
• Requires advanced knowledge of specialized areas including electrical secondary systems, plumbing systems, fire system devices, air systems and HVAC related systems.
• Requires ability to read and interpret information from complex blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
• Requires an in depth knowledge of hazardous material management, NFPA Life Safety Code, State Fire Marshall and NFPA 99 requirements.
• Requires comprehensive understanding of codes and regulations associated with maintenance utility operation including the requirements of the JCAHO, SDOH, OSHA, and other federal, state and local agencies.
• Requires a minimum of 1 year relevant experience leading teams.
• Requires 5 years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical or other utility systems.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's Degree in applicable discipline preferred.
• Previous Central Utility Plant or Powerhouse operations experience (strongly preferred).
• Experience overseeing steam, chilled water, boilers, and related mechanical systems.
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing technical or maintenance teams.
• Boiler Operator Certification or willingness to obtain certification within the first year.
• EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or willingness to obtain within the first year.
• Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, asset management, and operational planning.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
• A broad mechanical aptitude and understanding of multiple facility trades and systems.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning, coordinating and supervising overall operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
• Organizes work, estimates worker-hour requirements and delegates work to technicians within the area.
• Schedules preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems (mechanical, electrical, etc.).
• Trains technicians in general repair and maintenance, using operating manuals, work orders and blueprints.
• Assists technicians as needed with maintenance calls, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repair of various utility systems.
