About The Position

The Central Utility Plant Operator ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the casino resort’s central utility and hydronic systems. The role monitors, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, piping, controls, and related equipment while responding to system alarms and performing preventive maintenance in a 24/7 environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 2+ years of experience operating, maintaining, or repairing commercial or industrial HVAC, hydronic, boiler, chiller, or central utility plant systems, or an equivalent combination of relevant technical education, training, and experience.
  • Working knowledge of commercial or industrial boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, hydronic piping, valves, and related mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of basic HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and water treatment principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, equipment controls, mechanical drawings, operating procedures, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and other equipment associated with plant maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude with demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions and determine when an issue requires escalation.
  • Ability to use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively communicating and coordinating with team members across shifts.
  • Ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to changing conditions and equipment emergencies in a 24/7 operating environment.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of a Building Automation System (Niagara N4 preferrable)
  • Special Boilers license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • HVAC EPA Universal Refrigerant license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Refrigeration, controls, or related technical certification preferred.
  • OSHA, lockout/tagout, or other applicable safety training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, monitors, inspects, maintains, and repairs central plant and hydronic systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valves, water treatment and filtration systems, controls, and related equipment.
  • Monitors equipment performance and building automation systems to maintain proper temperatures, pressures, flow rates, and efficient system operation; identifies and reports abnormal operating conditions.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, adjustments, component replacement, and repairs to maintain equipment reliability and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Responds to plant alarms, equipment failures, leaks, heating and cooling issues, and other facility service needs; escalates complex or critical conditions as appropriate.
  • Completes equipment inspections, operating logs, work orders, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely and communicates equipment status and outstanding issues across shifts.
  • Assists with equipment start-ups and shutdowns, system testing, seasonal changeovers, contractor activities, installations, and facility projects.
  • Maintains plant areas, tools, equipment, parts, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe condition and follows applicable safety requirements, codes, manufacturer specifications, and established procedures.
  • Provides responsive, professional service while working throughout the casino resort and coordinates work to minimize disruption to guests, team members, and business operations.
  • Utilizes data trends as part of a predictive maintenance plan and to detect system abnormalities.
  • Utilizes a Computerized Maintenance Management System to document all work.
