About The Position

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, this role performs custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms, and other similar duties. The position also handles specialized custodial care and general building maintenance to ensure a healthy, safe, pleasant, and functional environment. Additional responsibilities include assisting with moving furniture, event setup and takedown, hanging office items, and other facilities services-related tasks. Regular rotations between work areas are a required component of this position and will be implemented at the supervisor's discretion.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Two years of experience in general custodial, building, and grounds maintenance.
Valid Utah Driver’s License
Knowledge of basic cleaning practices and procedures
Knowledge of maintenance tools and basic custodial equipment
Knowledge of safe use and storage of various cleaning chemicals and compounds
Knowledge of related laws, codes, rules, and regulations governing functions of the position, including applicable OSHA regulations
Knowledge of proper use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and products.
Knowledge of body fluid cleanup and proper protection.
Knowledge of all floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, and ceramic tile, as well as carpet fibers, weaves and backings.
Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers.
Knowledge of current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
Skill in operating various cleaning equipment, including buffers, vacuums, steam cleaners, and other cleaning equipment.
Ability to quickly and accurately perform work.
Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner in all circumstances.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to understand, read, and communicate in English.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and superiors.

Responsibilities

Help the City maintain a good public image by providing a safe, clean, comfortable environment conducive to all those who visit our facilities.
Ensure all City-owned buildings are cleaned and ready for daily use.
Maintain and clean restrooms, including porcelain and stainless-steel surfaces, walls, floor drains, floors, etc.
Clean and wash walls, woodwork, windows, doors, desks, ceilings, and other surface areas.
Collect and dispose of waste including emptying garbage containers and replacing liners.
Assist in maintaining building grounds and parking lots by collecting and disposing of refuse.
Inspect buildings for damages and documents for withholding deposit and identify potential fire hazards.
Prepare various cleaning reports.
Ensure work is completed with minimal disturbance for building occupants.
Maintain building security by ensuring doors and windows are locked and secured.
Maintain all types of floor surfaces, fabric surfaces, and upholstery.
Perform specialized custodial duties, i.e. clean, refinish and maintain a variety of floor coverings and surfaces, clean restroom floors, monitor pest control, and other specialized tasks as assigned.
Assist in maintaining adequate stock of cleaning supplies, inventory, and spaces.
Organize closets and storage areas to stock parts and supplies.
Maintain custodial equipment: perform preventative and repair maintenance on equipment such as buffers, vacuums, scrubbers, burnishers, appliances, etc.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
