About The Position

The successful candidate will serve as a Sharp Facilities Mechanic, supporting a multi-building pharmaceutical packaging facility / cGMP environment in Allentown, PA. The Facilities Mechanic will report to the Manager, Facilities – Hard Services. This role involves the safe operation and maintenance of a large facility, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as building automation and fire safety systems. The position requires performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, guiding vendor partners, and documenting all work. The mechanic will also conduct field inspections, respond to alarms, provide expertise for facilities projects, and adhere strictly to GMPs and GDPs. Additionally, the role supports capital planning, may require extended hours, and involves identifying opportunities for operational improvements and collaborating with various teams and vendors.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience as a facilities mechanic, or as a specialist within the MEP trades, is required.
  • Strictly adhere to all applicable GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GDPs (Good Documentation Practices).
  • Work extended hours beyond a traditional work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts as needed, sometimes with little or no notice.

Nice To Haves

  • Biopharma experience in a cGMP environment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with BAS equipment and controls is preferred.
  • Well-versed in the preventive, predictive & corrective maintenance and operation of industrial and commercial equipment, especially HVAC.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maintain (1) 210,000 ft2 warehouse and (3) production buildings totaling 320,000 ft2.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance including HVAC (rooftop units, dehumidifier units, exhaust fans), temperature/humidity/differential pressure calibrations, automatic storage and retrieval system, air compressors (including regulators, filters, dryers), HEPA filter certifications and replacements.
  • Perform electrical maintenance including switchgear, transformers, emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, power distribution panels, interior and exterior lighting and panels.
  • Perform plumbing maintenance including boilers, water treatment, sprinkler piping, potable water lines & fittings, sanitary drain lines & fittings, storm drains.
  • Maintain building automation system (Siemens Desigo).
  • Maintain fire life safety systems (panels, detectors, horns, strobes, etc.).
  • Maintain door operators and door hardware, dock levelers.
  • Perform fit and finish tasks including patching, painting, caulking, doors, windows, ceiling tiles, flooring.
  • Maintain passenger elevators.
  • Maintain building envelope (roofing, expansion joints).
  • Perform preventive maintenance of facilities and facilities equipment and document in the CMMS system.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform corrective maintenance of facilities and facilities equipment and document in the CMMS system.
  • Guide vendor partners to perform preventive and corrective maintenance and document in the CMMS system.
  • Obtain quotations and proposals from vendor partners for maintenance and replacement of facilities equipment.
  • Routinely conduct field inspections of facilities and facilities equipment to identify maintenance needs.
  • Routinely conduct rounds and readings of facilities equipment to ensure proper operation and report findings.
  • Respond to BAS alarms, determine root cause, and take appropriate action.
  • Trace utilities and perform LOTO in support of maintenance and improvement.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in support of facilities projects.
  • Strictly adhere to all applicable GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GDPs (Good Documentation Practices).
  • Support the capital planning process by identifying equipment at the end of its useful service life.
  • Work extended hours beyond a traditional work schedule, including evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts as needed.
  • Routinely identify opportunities for optimization, enhancements, energy savings, and operational improvements.
  • Share information, collaborate, and coordinate with other resources.
