About The Position

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Facilities Engineer – Level 2 to join our team in Charlotte, NC. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 60 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe. SYNOPTICS is seeking a high-energy professional with a strong mechanical background to support project management and execution within a small facilities team responsible for maintaining the site infrastructure and its manufacturing equipment. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, given the extensive interaction with contractors and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience.
  • No clearance required to start
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and utility systems, including Chillers, cooling towers, HVAC and building automation systems.
  • Experience in managing multiple facilities-related projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Microsoft Site, project timeline and scheduling
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex facility issues and design challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in using engineering and project management software tools such as AutoCAD and project scheduling software like Microsoft Project
  • Expertise in building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems, with experience in optimizing these systems for operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Project planning, budgeting, contract management, and overseeing project execution
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, from department engineers, managers, and contractors to regulatory bodies
  • Routine involvement and influence with site maintenance
  • Lead projects from concept to completion, including scope definition, budget, schedule management, and contractor oversight
  • Oversee the design and installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and other building infrastructure.
  • Influence preventative maintenance programs and repair activities to ensure building systems are operational and safe.
  • Partner with EHS on all facilities and projects to adhere to local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Act as a central point of contact, collaborating with internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Assist in budget planning, monitor project costs, and manage contract finances to ensure projects stay within budget.
