About The Position

The Facilities Project Engineer provides technical engineering support of hospital mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems and capital projects. Analyzes MEP system performance, verifies that utility and life safety systems are operating as designed and documented, and plans, coordinates, and documents capital and construction projects from concept through closeout. Serves as the department's primary resource for drawing interpretation, technical documentation, project scheduling, and regulatory submittal coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects District buildings, utility systems, and equipment to identify needed repair, maintenance, and replacement; documents findings and advises the Facilities Manager, Chief Engineer, and other management personnel regarding corrective actions, project scope, and priorities.
  • Verifies that preventive maintenance procedures, frequencies, and inventories in the CMMS accurately reflect installed equipment and manufacturer/code requirements.
  • Conducts system performance analysis and retro-commissioning of MEP systems (HVAC, boilers, chillers, medical gas, electrical distribution, emergency power, domestic water); trends data from the building automation system and identifies deviations from design intent.
  • Plans and coordinates capital and facilities projects from concept through closeout, including consultation with architects and engineers, scheduling, phasing, contractor coordination, tracking of submittals and requests for information, budget and change order tracking, and closeout documentation.
  • Prepares labor, material, life-cycle cost, and return-on-investment estimates for repairs, replacements, alterations, and capital improvements; develops scopes of work and specifications; solicits and evaluates contractor quotes; prepares purchase requisitions for materials, equipment, and contracted services; and recommends value engineering opportunities.
  • Reads, interprets, and marks up construction documents, shop drawings, submittits, and as-builts; produces basic drawings, floor plans, and equipment layouts using CAD or PDF markup software.
  • Assists with maintaining compliance with DNV Healthcare NIAHO guidelines for the Physical Environment of Care standards and with applicable state and federal requirements, including Title 22, NFPA, and HCAI requirements; supports regulatory submittals, surveys, inspections, and corrective action documentation.
  • Supports the scheduled inspection, testing, and documentation of life safety features, including fire and smoke barriers, fire dampers, and fire alarm and detection systems; assists with Emergency Response Code drills (e.g., Code Red) and emergency preparedness training.
