About The Position

Under the immediate supervision of the Department Director or Supervisor, this role is responsible for a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the delivery of City services and maintenance of City buildings, roadways, grounds, and equipment. This includes performing minor electrical work, repairs to structures, planning and scheduling facilities maintenance, responding to work orders, repairing streets and infrastructure, and maintaining contact with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or completion of equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Two (2) to five (5) years’ related experience with basic understanding and troubleshooting of electrical, HVAC, and mechanical aspects of structures and vehicles.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification through the American Red Cross (or equivalent), per City policy.
  • Knowledge of City and departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and functions.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of road construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Knowledge of building construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Knowledge of general construction, maintenance, and repair.

  • Skill in use of mechanics’ tools and equipment.
  • Computer operation (including software/applications such as Microsoft Office, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Performs minor electrical work, including streetlight repair, replacement, and troubleshooting.
  • Performs repairs to structures, including drywall, painting, siding, roofing, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Plans and schedules annual and bi-annual facilities maintenance, including roofing, siding, window replacements, HVAC, emergency generators, flooring, and painting.
  • Coordinates backflow testing and fire suppression compliance citywide.
  • Maintains work orders by responding to various City departments and buildings by performing work within the scope of the essential position functions and by working with contractors and suppliers to obtain quotes, bids, and schedule work for projects beyond the scope of the essential position functions.
  • Repairs streets, curbs, catch basins, broken sewer and water infrastructure, mowing, litter pick-up, leaf collection, snow and ice removal, digs ditches or trenches, performs rough and finished carpentry work, trims and/or cuts trees and brush, performs minor concrete work, some welding, paints streetlights and traffic signal poles, installs flags and banners, assists with providing power to seasonal holiday displays and special event set-ups, and other related activities associated with the Service Department.
  • Maintains contact with City personnel/departments, contractors, suppliers, the public, and various government agencies/officials to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions.
  • Maintains storage of organizational supply inventory.
  • Coordinates cleaning and maintenance contracts.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions.
  • Assists the Service Director and Human Resources Director in the scheduling and coordination of safety programming/training for Service Department employees.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains licensures and certifications.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
