About The Position

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify. The Facilities Operations Support Specialist provides facilities management support to the Department of Energy (DOE) Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) Sierra Nevada Region (SNR) in Redding, CA. The Facilities Operations Technician maintains building operating equipment using preventive maintenance schedules and other best practices.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a general maintenance or facilities support role (entry/lower level).
  • Working familiarity with common building systems (HVAC, electrical, fire protection, water/sewer, BAS, elevators) and how they affect building operations.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work directly with Government personnel, vendors, and facility occupants.
  • Ability to perform daily walk-through inspections and clearly document issues and follow-through actions.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn Government work order/recordkeeping systems.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and inspections across facilities, including mechanical/electrical spaces; ability to climb stairs and access constrained areas as needed.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate GSA vehicles as required.
  • U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair activities to sustain facility operations and protect building integrity.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the operations and functions conducted within assigned facilities.
  • Maintain general working knowledge of facility systems, including electrical power distribution, HVAC, Building Automation System (BAS), elevators, water, sewer, fire protection, and unique systems/equipment that impact occupancy and operations.
  • Deliver, move, realign property and supplies and equipment to support special events at the facilities, setting up conference room furniture, escorting other contractors performing work in/on the buildings/grounds, performing necessary housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain control of tools and supplies that are used, keeping an inventory of necessary supplies, and tracking preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Perform annual inventory as second party authenticator, aid to facility manager/property manager to enact new program initiatives, build necessary crates for big item shipping (Ex 40’ long insulators), assist mechanics throughout the region as needed, secondary warehouse effort when primary off-site/in yard, etc.
  • Serve as the daily interface with the Government regional manager, Government facility manager, operations managers, and facility occupants.
  • Act as the focal point of contact for facility maintenance, event support, VIP visits, vendor escorting, and other facility-impacting activities.
  • Manages requests for repair of facility systems and equipment; track actions to completion and follow up on unresolved or recurring deficiencies and work orders.
  • Serve as the point of contact for work performed by outside contractors and coordinate access, execution, and closeout.
  • Conduct recurring daily walk-through inspections; document deficiencies and drive corrective actions.
  • Receive, review, and act on facility inspection reports; ensure findings are addressed and recorded.
  • Report safety, environmental, and health violations; support or represent facility interests on safety, environmental, and operations committees as required.
  • Ensure appropriate facility signage is posted and maintained.
