About The Position

The department of Laundry Services intends to hire a Facilities Mechanic at either the Facilities Mechanic I, Facilities Mechanic II, or Facilities Mechanic III classification based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The Facilities Mechanic performs in the repairing, servicing, and maintaining of buildings and electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment. These positions are not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions.
  • Two years’ experience in general mechanical or electrical maintenance or other building facilities construction work.
  • Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment; and
  • Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training. At least two years of that experience must be in the same craft.

  • Knowledge of laundry/industrial equipment and methods used in maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments including confined spaces, low light areas, at heights, with exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Good communication skills and experience working on a team
  • Prefer 1 year knowledge of laundry/industrial equipment, computer laundry/industrial systems programs, installing, inspecting, maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance on laundry/industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge/field experience repair/maintenance of building gas fired/water heater & electric fresh air/exhaust vents.
  • Training or field experience working on high pressure steam system and experience in assisting with microprocessor controls on equipment experience with repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Prefer 2 years knowledge of laundry/industrial equipment: computer laundry/industrial system programs, installing, inspecting, maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance on laundry/industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and maintain the department’s preventive maintenance schedule
  • Diagnose/Assists with equipment systems malfunctions and repair in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Provide data entry support for the department’s preventative maintenance software system.
  • Keep maintenance shop area and storage areas organized and all tools in proper working conditions.
