About The Position

The Facilities Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, equipment, and physical structures by performing various duties. This role involves observing mechanical and electrical systems to locate and repair issues, dismantling and inspecting parts, repairing or replacing defective components, and installing new parts. The mechanic will also set up and operate metalworking tools, repair electrical equipment, perform light plumbing and construction tasks, and respond to building emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or vocational training
  • Minimum of 4-8 years related experience, or combination of education & experience
  • Understanding commercial practices of running equipment
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and repair various systems (i.e., heating, electrical, plumbing problems)
  • Basic understanding of SDS (Safety Data Sheets)
  • OSHA 10-hour course certification required or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35lbs

Responsibilities

  • Observes mechanical devices or electrical circuits in operation to locate causes of trouble and ability to repair the device.
  • Dismantles devices or circuits, examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Repairs electrical equipment and installs 110V, 208V, 277V electrical cabling, boxes, switches and outlets.
  • Performs light plumbing work on sinks, toilet bowls, water valves and pipe installations.
  • Performs light construction such as painting, installation and spackling of sheetrock, removal and installation of doors and floor tile removal and installation.
  • Responds to snow removals and other building emergencies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
