About The Position

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Facilities Mechanic III to join our team. This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 3:30 p.m., subject to change with department needs. The position is primarily based at Hillside Campus and will rotate shifts with staff at South Campus. This position is to be performed on-site as a condition of employment. Work is performed primarily in a shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time using shop equipment including computers, viewing computer monitors, hand tools, saws, power tools etc.; interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is exposure to loud noises, chemicals, fumes, dust and heat with the HVAC equipment such as compressors and exhaust fans while utilizing issued safety equipment. This position may also require occasional exposure to outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 6 years of experience in maintenance and/or building repair on complex systems
• Possess a valid California Driver License
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to interact with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability and willingness to work in confined spaces, at heights, outdoors, and to pull and lift objects up to 50lbs in weight
• Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and respond to emergency repair situations and campus operational needs as required.
• Knowledge of work order systems (CMMS) and building automation systems (BMS)
• Ability to work independently or as a team with minimal supervision and effectively follow through on assignments and projects.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing circumstances, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to assess situations and problem solve using own judgment
• Ability to shift priorities and perform duties under tight and changeable deadline; organize and complete tasks in a timely manner
• Experience using and maintaining basic maintenance equipment, hand tools, and light power tools.
• Knowledge of safe work practices, proper use of hand and power tools, and general building maintenance procedure
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in higher education, healthcare, public sector, or similar institutional environments.
• Training or certifications related to facilities maintenance, building systems, workplace safety, or skilled trades.

Responsibilities

• Provide complete and timely service on assigned tasks and work orders, which are received verbally, written or via electronic devices
• Perform building related repairs including plumbing, maintenance and upkeep of general appearance of the campus interior and grounds
• Perform wall restoration and painting including preparatory work for painting projects by washing walls, filling in or smoothing surfaces, and masking areas
• Troubleshoot and resolve various HVAC, electrical and plumbing issues
• Safely operate forklift, grounds vehicles, power tools, hand tools and related landscaping equipment
• Work with Lead Facilities Mechanic to ensure certified technicians, contractors and vendors are contacted for repairs that require higher skilled work
• Pick-up and deliver equipment to the appropriate sites, and install equipment
• Install fire extinguishers, bulletin boards, seismic anchoring devices
• Repair bathroom vanity equipment, remove or replace plumbing fixtures such as soap dispensers, toilet seats, bathroom hardware, and water faucet washers
• Repair light fixtures, replace light bulbs and fluorescent ballasts
• Make minor repairs to office furniture and equipment as well as power washing the exterior of clinics
• Repair minor roof leaks
• Repair or replace window, door, or cabinetry hardware.
• Repair fences and gates
• Clear stoppages in toilets, sinks, and floor drains
• Clean bearings, fan housing, fan compartments, drain pans, and machine rooms
• Clean out sediment traps in waste system
• Clean roof and patio drains
• Follow all College policies including safety protocols
• Perform furniture delivery and setups for events
• Other duties as assigned
