About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) the Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and management of facilities maintenance, and cleanliness in all YESS properties. This includes ensuring a safe, functional, and efficient physical environment. This role is hands-on in maintenance task and responsibilities including daily cleaning, snow removal, parking lot, landscaping, repair, and security. The role also oversees the implementation of safety procedures and their execution at all YESS properties. This role is responsible for developing and fostering collaborative relationships with other areas in the organization as it relates to services provided by operations. This role directly supervises three facilities assistants and the Health and Safety Advisor, which includes daily delegation of tasks, coaching and mentoring, and performance management. Hours of Work: Full-Time (40 hours per week, onsite Monday to Friday) On-Call Requirement: Participation in the on-call leadership rotation supporting 24/7 operations

Requirements

  • A journeymen certificate in a related specialty area, or a diploma in Health & Safety combined with 3 years of supervisory experience in a trade environment or facilities management or health and safety.
  • Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate completed within the last twelve months.
  • Clear police clearance (PIC) and a Child Intervention (CIRC) check, both obtained within the last six months.
  • Valid Alberta class 5 or higher driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • $1 million PLPD Personal Liability Protection
  • Strong cultural awareness with demonstrated understanding of Indigenous communities and diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for candidates with skills in HVAC, Electrical, plumbing, general building, and construction/maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Daily scheduling and service related to all maintenance requirements.
  • Planning and executing the annual maintenance schedule as it relates to core building components such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, air quality etc.
  • Recommending external contractors to perform the work and the oversight of the work, and ensuring standards are meet and work is completed.
  • Ongoing maintenance of the security system and cameras as required.
  • Act as the first responder to Programs staff in relation to emergencies when the situation requires facilities to respond.
  • Liaise with contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Lead the implementation of facilities policies, procedures, and systems aligned with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., CARF).
  • Lead the implementation of all health and safety programs and protocols.
  • Prepare draft health and safety policies and procedures for the COO’s review.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and local regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee safety training programs, orientations, and workshops for staff, volunteers, and youth residents, and maintain training records.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive safety culture within the agency by promoting awareness, encouraging staff and youth participation in safety initiatives, and addressing any safety concerns or issues.
  • Ensure scheduling and completion of regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and common areas.
  • Inform the COO of any incidents immediately and ensure incidents are investigated and prepare reports with recommendations and corrective actions for COO review.
  • Provide summary reports to the COO on organizational safety metrics and trends.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of the facilities team and the Health and Safety Advisor.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to direct reports. Including daily feedback, annual performance review, and goal setting.
  • Responsible for team culture and engagement within the team
