About The Position

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall care, safety, cleanliness, maintenance, and functionality of the church and school facilities and grounds. This is a hands-on position that combines facilities management, basic building maintenance, and custodial responsibilities. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently while also coordinating with parish, school staff, volunteers, and outside contractors. The Facilities Manager should take pride in maintaining a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-kept environment for students, parishioners, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in facilities management, building maintenance, custodial services, property management, construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong basic maintenance and repair skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
  • Experience with commercial or institutional cleaning and custodial practices preferred.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools and custodial equipment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance, cleaning, and facility requests.
  • Ability to work independently and respond appropriately to urgent facility needs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks associated with building maintenance and custodial work.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks and child-safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, cleanliness, and general upkeep of church, school, offices, classrooms, common areas, restrooms, and outdoor spaces.
  • Coordinate with and manage Head of Maintenance position.
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds and identify maintenance, safety, cleaning, or repair needs.
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance and cleaning schedules.
  • Coordinate repairs and service calls with qualified vendors and contractors when work is beyond the scope of basic maintenance.
  • Maintain records of maintenance, cleaning, inspections, equipment, warranties, and service providers.
  • Monitor building security, doors, locks, lighting, and other facility systems.
  • Assist with opening and securing buildings for church, school, parish, and special events.
  • Help prepare facilities for Masses, school functions, parish events, meetings, and other activities.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, doors, hardware, furniture, and general building repairs.
  • Replace light bulbs, filters, batteries, fixtures, hardware, and other routine maintenance items.
  • Troubleshoot basic facility and equipment issues and determine when professional assistance is required.
  • Perform minor repairs to walls, ceilings, doors, cabinets, furniture, and other building components.
  • Assist with heating, cooling, and ventilation maintenance and coordinate HVAC service as needed.
  • Maintain and operate basic hand and power tools safely.
  • Perform routine cleaning and custodial duties throughout the church, school, offices, classrooms, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and other facilities.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, sanitize, and clean floors, surfaces, furniture, fixtures, and other areas as needed.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, floors, and other fixtures.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and maintain appropriate disposal procedures.
  • Clean and maintain church and worship spaces, including assisting with preparation and cleanup before and after Masses and special services.
  • Maintain custodial closets, cleaning equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Monitor cleaning and paper-product supplies and reorder supplies as needed.
  • Respond to spills, accidents, and other cleaning needs in a timely manner.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for parish and school events, including tables, chairs, meetings, receptions, athletic events, and other activities.
  • Ensure cleaning products and chemicals are properly stored, labeled, and used according to manufacturer and safety guidelines.
  • Oversee general care of lawns, landscaping, sidewalks, parking areas, playgrounds, and other exterior areas.
  • Coordinate or perform routine seasonal tasks such as snow and ice management, leaf removal, landscaping, and exterior cleanup.
  • Monitor exterior lighting, drainage, fencing, signage, and other property conditions.
  • Remove snow and ice or coordinate snow-removal services as necessary to maintain safe access to the church and school.
  • Ensure grounds are safe, clean, and presentable.
  • Help maintain a safe environment for students, parishioners, employees, and visitors.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and promptly address hazards.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and building safety procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to inspections, maintenance, cleaning, and safety.
  • Follow applicable OSHA, fire, building, environmental, and other safety requirements.
  • Follow all parish and school policies regarding child safety, appropriate conduct, and access to school facilities.
  • Properly use and store cleaning chemicals, tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Schedule and oversee outside contractors and service providers.
  • Monitor routine service contracts such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pest control, landscaping, fire protection, security, and waste removal.
  • Assist with facility improvement and renovation projects.
  • Communicate maintenance, custodial, and facility needs and project status to parish and school leadership.
