About The Position

The Facilities Manager develops, oversees, audits, and manages store facilities to support efficient operations and fosters a healthy, efficient, and positive work environment. The role is responsible for managing systems, equipment performance, and maintenance programs to ensure reliability, functionality, and cost-effectiveness across all store operations. This includes overseeing facility projects, vendor relations, and managing a maintenance and custodial team to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for all. The position upholds the Co-op’s standards for effectively developing and supporting their team, implementing efficient systems, and demonstrating outstanding leadership and performance management in a way that reflects the values of the Co-op and its cooperative identity.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in customer service within a retail setting.
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • 3-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, and construction/project oversight
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and service agreements
  • Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems.
  • Preventive maintenance programs and equipment lifecycle management.
  • Experience in leading teams.
  • Previous experience in creating and developing effective procedural standards.
  • Understand complex instructions, emails, and memos.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with staff and customers, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers and colleagues.
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide by tens and hundreds mentally.
  • Perform these calculations using U.S. currency, weight, volume, and distance units.
  • Use common sense to follow detailed written or spoken instructions.
  • Handle problems that involve a few specific variables in standardized situations.
  • Able to prioritize work tasks, multitask, and stay focused.
  • Capable of developing, executing, and refining procedures.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and email software.
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification (GED).
  • Obtains and maintains adult CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the Facilities and Maintenance department operates effectively and efficiently; facilitates day-to-day operations and guarantees that performance standards are met, with employees consistently working toward their ideal and peak performance.
  • Leads a maintenance and custodial team to ensure a clean and inviting environment for everyone, regardless of background, in accordance with standards.
  • Stay current as a forklift and narrow aisle lift trainer, and Serv-Safe while managing renewal processes for other employees in compliance with standards.
  • Serves as a point of contact for third-party providers and businesses to effectively maintain facilities.
  • Processes invoices and negotiates competitive rates and services from third-party providers as needed.
  • Meets and exceeds our customers’ expectations for service and provides a welcoming environment for all people and diverse backgrounds, in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards.
  • Model, provide, and ensure customers receive prompt, safe, healthy, friendly, and courteous service in a professional manner that highlights our cooperative advantage.
  • Maintain a calm and friendly attitude with all customers and in every situation.
  • Monitor overall store conditions to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and the ability to meet operational needs and goals.
  • Addresses daily attendance issues according to procedure and reallocates labor as needed to meet the operating needs of the entire Co-op.
  • Creates, develops, communicates, implements, audits, and evaluates operating standards and procedures, making adjustments as needed.
  • Create training and development opportunities that enhance their skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Knows and adheres to all aspects of the Employee Handbook, current policies and procedures, safety program and collective bargaining agreements (CBA).
  • Establish clear expectations for direct reports and support to ensure expectations are exceeded.
  • Delegate and assign tasks for department personnel as needed and ensure tasks are completed.
  • Maintain prompt and clear communication with the Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager regarding problems, concerns, opportunities, recognition, and other important matters.
  • Supervise personnel work performance and conduct, and support the Co-op’s performance management practices as needed, following Co-op policies, procedures, labor regulations, and legal guidelines.
  • Demonstrate behaviors that align with the Co-op's values through supportive and participatory leadership, fostering cooperation, team building, and motivating employees to reach goals.
  • Organizes and leads regular team meetings.
  • Monitor and assist in ensuring that staff are properly dressed, including aprons and nametag, and are mentally and physically ready for their work shift upon arrival.
  • Help design and deliver training sessions for employees that improve and expand their skills, knowledge, and abilities. Ensure new hires receive proper and effective training.
  • Note absences, tardiness, shift changes, and other variances or patterns according to procedure. Reallocate labor as needed to meet operating needs.
  • Follow recruitment policies by screening and interviewing candidates according to established procedures.
  • Supports Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op’s marketing and outreach efforts and assists with marketing, outreach, and event activities as needed.
  • Model communication with staff that is timely, clear, direct, and respectful.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors to motivate staff and foster teamwork.
  • Treat staff fairly, equally, consistently, and with respect.
  • Conduct reviews with department staff to discuss job performance and develop action plans that address areas for improvement and areas of continued high performance.
  • Perform storewide cleaning and other projects as needed.
  • Attend meetings and events as needed.
  • Ensure that equipment repair and maintenance are communicated to the appropriate personnel and make adjustments until the equipment has been improved.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and the ability to perform all duties of direct reports.
  • Show support for cooperative values and principles every day.
  • Compile information and contribute to reports as needed.
  • Perform other duties and work in different departments as assigned. Supports other management functions as needed.
  • Knowledgeable about all core responsibilities of operational employees at Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op.
  • Must be available to work hours based on the needs of the business and their department.
