About The Position

Under general direction, provide support and training to 13 State Prisons focusing on safety and federal OSHA laws and regulations to ensure compliance. Support of Facilities Managers duties include development, direction, coordination of budgeting, planning, design, construction, renovation, and maintenance functions or activities for management of correctional facilities in the state of Alaska. This position prepares plans, goals, and objectives for the facility and provides ongoing technical assistance to achieve those directives. This position may be called upon to assist the facility concerning unannounced OSHA visits, conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, accident investigations, industrial hygiene evaluations, and safety training; developing and implementing safety policies and procedures; maintaining required records and reports; advising management on safety issues; and coordinating corrective actions to promote a safe work environment and ensure regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
  • Knowledge of the physical, engineering, and experimental equipment and operational characteristics of facilities, and safety and equipment development designed to support activities.
  • Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in facility management, public or business administration, planning, design, architecture, engineering, construction or maintenance, project or cost management, or a closely related field.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a criminal history check.
  • Requires some travel within the State (normally one trip does not exceed 3 days), with advance notice.
