About The Position

To maintain, construct, and repair Agency buildings and facilities; to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks involving carpentry, plumbing, minor custodial services, minor electrical, landscaping, vegetation management, grounds maintenance, pesticide application, heating and cooling systems, and related repair work; and to perform a wide variety of manual work related to assigned duties. This is the journey level technical classification. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.

Requirements

  • Methods, materials, standards and equipment used in building construction and repair.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of power tools, appliances, small engines and equipment.

  • Three (3) years experience in the building construction, maintenance, or machinery trades.
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • A class A driver’s license is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid California Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) with categories A (Residential, Industrial, and Institutional), B (Landscape Maintenance), C (structural Pest Control), F (Aquatic Pest Control) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve urgent request regarding issues with malfunctioning equipment related to plumbing, mechanical and structural failures at Agency facilities and sites.
  • Basic HVAC work including changing filters, cleaning coils, replacing belts, thermostats, electrical components or other non-refrigerant components.
  • Assist in the coordination of contracts related to facility maintenance and repair, including elevator maintenance.
  • Maintain and coordinate pest control activities for the Agency.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, basic trouble shooting, and minor mechanical repairs on appliances and mechanical equipment, including replacement of belts, hoses, pumps, motors, seals, filters, switches, and other basic components; change or replace inoperative appliances, tools, and equipment.
  • Serve as liaison for janitorial service contract and for heating and air conditioning contract.
  • Obtain proposals and quotes from vendors for services.
  • Perform minor interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs such as cleaning, painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, small construction, cement work, fencing, and windows and screen replacement.
  • Keep records of work to be done and work completed.
  • Order and maintain supplies and stock as needed for facilities.
  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure proper functioning.
  • Perform routine facility upkeep, including basic cleaning and tidying of work areas.
  • Perform pesticide application activities in compliance with California DPR regulations, including herbicides, algicides, and other approved products for institutional landscape, right of way, and aquatic use.
  • Accurate completion and submittal of pesticide use reports, application records and safety documentation.
  • Assist in the oversight of pesticide inventory, storage, labeling, transportation, mixing, and disposal in accordance with DPR requirements, Agency policy, and best management practices.
  • Assist in Agency landscaping and grounds maintenance activities performed by internal crews, including mowing, pruning, vegetation control, defensible space support, irrigation system oversight, erosion control, and general site appearance.
  • Respond to emergency, after-hours as required, including supporting facility access issues, infrastructure protection, and storm response needs.
  • May drive service vehicles to and from the job.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other Agency employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
