The Facilities Maintenance Worker I is an entry-level, non-exempt position in the Support Services Department. The role performs basic custodial, building maintenance, and facility support tasks to help keep District buildings and facilities safe, clean, and functional, while developing foundational skills in multiple building trades and learning District standards, procedures, and safety practices. The position receives general supervision from the Support Services Manager and does not supervise staff. Work is routine and involves less independence, complexity, and technical judgment than the Facilities Maintenance Worker II classification. This position is part of a Facilities Maintenance series offering progression through increasingly complex and independent work. Advancement is based on demonstrated technical competency, experience, reliability, and the ability to perform work at progressively higher levels of complexity, independence, technical skill, and leadership. The role requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for up to ten hours per day and lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work may involve outdoor weather, noise, dust, cleaning chemicals, and maintenance environments. Employees are designated Disaster Service Workers under California law, must complete assigned related training, and must return to work as ordered during an emergency.
