About The Position

Serves as one of the part-time Building Grounds Maintenance Specialists for Ivy Tech Community College Buildings during the Monday through Friday work weeks. Area of primary responsibility is to service and operate equipment for grounds maintenance as assigned. Professionalism includes job knowledge, dependability, behavior, and initiative. Performs maintenance and support services in various areas, including grounds work, planting and maintaining flower beds, maintaining road and building signage, and assisting with snow removal. The role involves lifting and physical exertion, with guidelines for single-person lifting not exceeding 50 pounds repetitively. Driving is an essential function of this position.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Knowledge of or experience in maintenance work.
  • Ability to read.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to operate hand/maintenance tools.
  • Ability to operate lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Must hold a valid Indiana driver's license.
  • Must complete the Driver Approval Form to obtain authorization for operating College-owned, leased, or rented vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grounds work, including trimming trees and shrubs, maintaining planting beds, and applying ground chemicals and pest control as needed.
  • Plant and maintain annual flower beds, including watering as needed.
  • Maintain road and building signage, ensuring lots, drives, and sidewalks are clear of debris or trash, and applying light cold patch materials where needed.
  • Assist with snow plowing/shoveling and salting walks.
  • Operate equipment for grounds maintenance.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, including job knowledge, dependability, positive behavior, and initiative.
  • Maintain confidential information, valuables, and safeguard property and equipment.
  • Adapt procedures and working patterns to deal with the unexpected.
  • Lift and exert physically, following guidelines for lifting objects up to 50 pounds repetitively and using accepted lifting procedures for single lifts.
