You'll be responsible for day-to-day hands-on facilities support for Caliola's 16,500 square foot mixed office/lab facility with secured-facility procedures. This role requires a practical, multi-trade commercial building generalist who can move confidently between repair work, light construction, space reconfiguration, vendor coordination, and facility issue resolution under the direction of the Director of Operations Infrastructure. You will help maintain and improve our facility in a manner that supports employee safety, operational continuity, security requirements, regulatory compliance, and long-term building value.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems. This is crucial for troubleshooting, overseeing repairs, and communicating with contractors.
  • 5+ years experience with commercial facilities maintenance, basic construction, or remodeling, including drywall repair and finishing, door and hardware work, basic carpentry, minor framing, painting, ceiling systems, fixture replacement, and similar non-structural improvement work.
  • Awareness of workplace safety, building-code considerations, and when to involve the Director, licensed trades, inspectors, or qualified vendors.
  • Ability to coordinate professionally with vendors, contractors, employees, and visitors in a secured facility environment.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull equipment or materials weighing up to 75 pounds individually, and heavier loads with assistance.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach continuously or for extended periods throughout a shift; ability to transition between these positions as tasks require.
  • Ability to safely ascend, descend, and work from portable ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, and stationary platforms at various heights.
  • Fine motor skills and digital dexterity to safely grasp, manipulate, and operate small hardware and hand/power tools (e.g., screws, drills, wiring, levels, paintbrushes).
  • Ability to operate company-provided tools and authorized facility equipment safely.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to inspect work, detect hazards, and read technical documents under varying lighting conditions (e.g., low light, bright sunlight, or restricted spaces).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English to safely receive instructions, coordinate with team members, escort visitors/vendors and log maintenance reports.
  • Ability to hear audible safety alarms, equipment malfunctions, or verbal warnings in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to extreme temperatures (heat/cold), dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in tight or restricted spaces (e.g., utility closets, crawl spaces, or ceilings) when necessary and when appropriate safety procedures are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of facility maintenance functions including, but not limited to, building/facility maintenance, hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, and non-structural interior improvement work across building systems, including coordination with qualified vendors for specialized or regulated work.
  • Performs practical multi-trade facility work such as drywall repair and finishing, painting, door and hardware work, ceiling grid and tile replacement, flooring repair, minor demolition, basic carpentry, fixture replacement, furniture assembly, appliance support, break room or restroom refreshes, workstation buildouts and similar non-structural facility improvement tasks.
  • Analyzes maintenance repair requests, identifies problems and implements practical solutions or escalates issues requiring Director approval, licensed trades, permits, inspections, structural review, or life-safety review before proceeding.
  • Receives, inspects, and organizes incoming shipments, ensuring accurate documentation and proper storage.
  • Coordinates various vendors and contractors in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facility improvement work under the direction of the Director, including quotes, scheduling, site access, visitor/vendor escorting, work-quality monitoring and completion confirmation.
  • Completes preventative maintenance and general upkeep of building systems, equipment, machinery, office furniture, workstations, tools, work areas, storage areas, and the building's interior and exterior.
  • Keeps records for preventative maintenance for machines and equipment, vendor service, facility repairs, inspections, and related documentation.
  • Follows all facility safety and security procedures, including controlled-area access requirements, visitor/vendor escort procedures, and restrictions on accessing areas while actively secured.
